ONE OF OUR TECHS PROGRAMMED A 800 AND HAD THE MACRO ON AND OFF ON THE MAIN PAGES ON AND OFF BUTTONS. I CHANGED THE REMOTE FOR THE CUSTOMER SO THAT ON AND OFF ON EACH DEVICE PAGE WAS THE ON AND OFF MACRO. NOW THE OFF MACRO DOES NOT WORK. IT DOES NOT EVEN SEND ANY COMMANDS. WHAT GIVES? ANY IDEAS?

You are putting macros where commands reside. If you remove only the macros from the individual devices' power buttons, it will probably work again. What's happening is that the remote is being "confused" since there are now essentially two functions on one button, a command and a macro, which could potentially create a loop.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Damon,
Similar topic - I was setting an MX-850 to work with a DVD/VCR combo, and the original remote had individual buttons for DVD and VCR to tell the unit which side should accept the next command.
Used an LCD button "VCR" for instance to send a learned command for that button, but also put a page go to command in the macro window. It didn't work. To fix it I put the learned VCR and DVD buttons elsewhere and recorded a macro that went to the learned button then did the page command.
I assumed I did something it wasn't meant to do at first, but just wondered why it accepted a learned and macro command on the same button. L and M both lit up on that button. A bug, or I just need to know better?

Tom,
It seems like a similar thing may be happening here as well. If you are using a device button to send both the command and a macro, try this instead...
1) Learn the VCR command to a button in the DVD/VCR device and remove it from the device button
2) Use the VCR device button as a macro - Step 1: "VCR" command from the DVD/VCR device - Step 2: Go to DVD/VCR device
Let me know if this helps or if you need to do things differently.

I had done exactly as you suggested and it worked fine. Just was curious why it allowed the learned and macro on the same button at first but did not execute.

Tom,
Good, I'm glad it worked! :)
As far as why it allowed the functions, but did not execute - the remote itself may have simply ignored it due to the conflict. The software isn't "smart" enough to allow and disallow things, based on what's already on the button and the button's capabilities...and it's very likely that it shouldn't be that smart, because it may cause undue complications when programming a complex system.
