How do you learn the TV volume control into the MX-800 in a way that approximates the way the original TV remote works?

When I hold the volume control down until the Editor indicates Learned, the volume control moves too many steps and I cannot get some intermediate values. When I hold it down for a short duration, the TV volume control operation is erratic with the graphic appearing but no volume control change.

I suppose there is a happy medium but does anybody know what the trick is to get reliable operation and fine control at the ssame time?

Count (hehe),

What you want to do is tap the volume button(s) on the original remote about 3 - 5 times when the MX-800 is learning, rather than pressing and holding it until the MX-800 says "good". This way, it will allow for the volume control to ramp up or down.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thank you,
Damon DG

That did not work at all. The graphic comes on-screen but no volume movement. I am going to try holding down a short time.

That worked much better but still not great. Sometimes no volume increase or decrease occurs. I still don't have the recipe.

Have you tried any of the IR database codes or a Pronto file from this site (if available)?

I tried the Mitsu 55813 TV IR database but the volume control is still flaky.

BTW, How come the Volume Control shows an L (learned) but when I place the pointer on the button, it shows a P (pre-programmed)?

Is this just another Editor bug?

The database has been pretty accurate for us however, here are a couple of tips:

Change the batteries (in the new 800 and the Mitsu)
Keep the laser mouse away from the learning you are doing.
Avoid bright lights

You may find you will have to put the 800 into learning mode (unattached from the computer - hold down "Main" and "Enter" for 10 seconds) and learn the volume commands head to head. This has worked everytime for us. Volume codes have been quite tricky and time consuming otherwise.

Really this should work.
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..
