First of all, I've got to say that the MX500 has been the best remote I ever could have purchased. The fact of the matter is that my circa April, 2001 remote has seen a lot of use. Three or four of the buttons require a lot of force to work simply because they've been pressed so many times. I was thinking maybe I could take the case off and clean inside, but I couldn't find any info on the net on how to get it apart without a lot of prying and shattered plastic. Does anyone know of resources (i.e. web addresses) where there are instructions to take the case apart? Any other ideas to get my buttons working better?

The best thing to do is call Universal Remote Control and ask them to replace the keypad. Chances are the buttons are worn down, not dirty. I don't know if they'll still have the older keypads, if yours has the blue buttons (instead of the current white Gemstone style). There's a small charge for it, but it'll make your remote operate like new. Call them at: (914) 835-4484.

Thank you,
Damon DG

Since you asked how to take it apart, here are instructions to do so.
