Just out of curiousity, what brand is your plasma?
Fortunatly, I've never had this problem before.

I assume all works well with the TV off?

You mentioned that when you connected the emitter to the cable box, it lit solid.
Does it do that on any piece of equipment? Or just the cable box?

Try pulling the power to the cable box and see if it behaves the same.

Sorry I don't have a steadfast answer, I'm just looking at all the angles.

pilgrim....i have a panasonic PHD6UY plasma, and yes all seems great when the plasma is off.....ive never tried the unplugging the cable box yet, but can try that too....cable box is on recessed shelf behind the plasma....there is an xbox back there too, but ive used that thing once in one year.....
