I have a three viewing areas that I use with my remote controls. With the MX-850 that I have and with previous versions, when ever I made a change to a device, I would just export the revised device to the other two viewing area files and all the original macros with the importing remote would stay intact. The device was simply replacing the contents of the earlier version of the device.

I am having problems accomplishing the same thing with my MX-3000. When I import the device instead of replacing and updating the current device, it creates a new device with the same name. If I then delete the old one, I lose my aliases that the older version of the device had.

I'm not sure if perhaps I am approaching this the wrong way and there is a way to replicate the process I have always used with my previous URC remotes.

Thanks for any advise that can be provided.

Pete

Not haveing owned an 850 or any other in that line I can't speak to what you were doing with it. But I have a 3000 and 3 viewing areas and have everything working nicely.

I know there is only one file (.rcc) per system setup. That file contains everyting. With the 3000, importing any device into an exesting rcc file causes all aliases in that device being imported to be stripped. Because of this any and all changes should be made to this ONE MASTER file.

With the 3000, create one device for each physical piece of electronics to be controled and make any subsequent device based changes there. Any area control pages should alias to these master device pages. This way there is only one button that actually sends out control signals for, for example, Bedroom TV Power, although several buttons on other pages may turn the TV on and off by aliasing to it. I this fashion any changes to device control need bo done at only one location.

I hope this helps.

Pete,

The import feature only adds to, rather than overwrites existing devices. If you want to retain your original macros and commands, what you need to do is copy commands from the new device to the original one. If you are changing commands, such as those that exist in your macros, then you will need to redo your macros.

Let me know if this is helpful.

Thank you,
Damon DG

Thanks for your replies Lane and Damon. This is kind of what I was expecting as it did not seem like there was a different way to import the files. It looks like I will be making the one master file Lane. This was the original way I was going to start off, but I was concerned about the punch throughs as I have two Yamaha receivers in a gear closet working on different emitter lines. I believe I read earlier on one of your posts with a setup like this it was not possible to use variables.

Anyways if not, another approach I guess is to duplicate devices for each viewing area. I am only going to need two, as I will only use the MX-3000 in the family room and theater.

Thanks again for the assistance.

Pete
