I have a Panasonic PV-D4734S Progressive SCAN DVD/VCR COMBO.

I also have the mx-500 remote control.

I am having trouble finding the right code.

I have lost the original remote.

Can anyone help?

Try the Panasonic DVD codes, as well as the Panny VCR codes. Unfortunately, the MX-500 has a rather limited built-in code database, so you're pretty limited if you don't have the original remote to learn from.

If none of the codes work, you could give Universal Remote Control a call. If you send the MX-500 in to them, they will add the code needed, usually free of charge.
