I’m currently trying to choose between these 2 remotes. I've discounted the URC models after reading some of the threads here. And I think the MX650 costs too much more than the 500 for the extras you get.
I like the fact that the MX500 has a record button. Obviously you could program a button on the MX700, but is that as good (ie, is there a suitable button that is intuitive, and not used for other things)? The MX500 also has chapter skip buttons |<< >>| which are pretty useful for CD and DVD players. Again, what buttons do people use on the MX700 for this, and is it as good?
I want to be able to program, and store with a PC, which is why I've added the URC-8811 with the MX500 - is that programming solution as good as having an MX700? (can you type names, and build macros on the PC, store to the URC and then send?)
The MX700 has a lot more buttons for macros, but having never owned an all in one remote, I have no idea how many macro buttons I'll need (kit as signature). Have those with an MX500 used all the macro buttons and wished for more?
Any advice is much appreciated
Thanks

I'd go with the MX-700 - it's a higher-end remote than the MX-500 and has more features that, if you're considering a remote of this caliber, you'll want. It's much easier to program codes with the MX Editor software than to get into JP1. With the LCD screen, you can create any label you'd like, which overcomes any limitations of missing buttons IMO. Thanks David. Do I take it that the shipping discount (I'm in the uk) doesn't apply to the open box MX700 you sell?
