I have a MX 500 that I need to get a non stock code for a sony TV Input 7 programmed into.

I have a OFA remote, but I can't access the device type that has the code I need. The OFA isn't JP1 ready either, so that isn't a good option...

I looked at the irclone site and it looks like they went out of business.

I see several files in the files section of this website that look promising, but I don't know what hardware/software to use to get them working for me...

This is the missing link for me with my setup. Any help will be appreciated.

There's only one way to get anything into an MX-500 - teaching it from another remote. If your OFA remote isn't JP1-ready, you can get an inexpensive remote such as the URC-8811PKG (which includes a JP1-Cable).

Isn't there some other way like an application and a rf transmitter that can be used to transmit particular signals for my mx500 to learn?

What is the difference between the 8811 and 8910 as far as using them to program the mx500?

Nothing really. Both are JP1-able and I don't believe that the 8910 has any built-in codes that the 8811 doesn't.

Is that true Edmund? ;-)

Not that I'm aware of - the MX-500 only can learn IR, not RF. No remote can learn RF.

Nothing. The only real difference is the LCD screen on the 8910. Programming-wise, they can both teach the same codes to the MX-500.

I would go wih the 8910, it has built-in modem for upgrading over the phone. As for the preset codes, the tivo code in the 8910 accepts advanced codes, where the one in the 8811 doesn't.

It doesn't matter which one of the OFA remotes you get, you will still need to hack via jp1 to get video 7.

Isn't Irclone-MX still an option or is it no longer available?

It's history unless you can find a used one somewhere.

Would Irclone-MX allow me to add a code file for input 7 from somewhere then teach the remote that ir code with the dongle? Is there any other software/hardware package for generating ir from a file?

You would need both the IRClone hardware and software. I haven't heard of any other hardware/software combos that can do this.

Well, 8910 it is, I guess...Seems like a strange kludge to get a single button programmed, but I guess if the original sony remote had been more complete, it wouldn't be an issue...lazy sony.

Thanks for the help.
