Greetings,
I just got an MX 700 and when connecting it to my computer I keep getting an error message saying that "Com Port 1 is in use by another device..."
I know I have it connected to the right port, as I only have one of them.
And, I also tried the USB/Serial adapter cable, but got the same message.
Any ideas?

Some other program is using COM1, like maybe a modem? You might need to uninstall the USB/Serial adapter driver.

Do you have a COM2 port? You can use that by changing Communications -> Settings on MX-Editor.

No, I do not have a second serial port.
I do have a Palm device, but I unhooked it from that port, and then set the Hot Synch setting to manual, thinking that this was locking up the port.
But why would I get the same message when hooking up to the USB port with the USB adaptor?

Seabear,

You need to close Hot Sync. That WILL cause it to claim the port, even if it's not being used. Close it up and let me know if that does the trick.

Thank you,
Damon DG

I think I just e-mailed you on this. I should probably check the forum first. ;-)
If so, let us know if closing Hot Sync worked.

Well, closing Hot sync did not do it, but I finally uninstalled and reinstalled the software/drivers for the USB/Serial port adaptor, and on the third try it finally gave me the option of USB Port #4 showing the Belkin Serial Port Adaptor.
So I went back and chose Port #4 in MX Editor and that seems to have solved the problem.
Now all I have to do is find the codes for the Yamaha 2500.
Anyone seen them out there?
Thanks,
Tom
