O.K., This is messed up. Out of the blue my macro for watching HDTV stopped working (was not even sending out the commands). I tried to reload in MXeditor, and nothing. All my other macros work just fine (watch DVD, listen to CD, etc). After numerous attempts at fixing this, I decided to create a whole new file. Now when I try to load it to my 850, about 1/3 of the way through, it gives a "fail 6" code at the bottom of the remote. I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall MXeditor. In the meantime, does anyone know what the code means??

UPDATE:

I uninstalled MX-850 editor and re-installed it and now it won't even download to the remote at all!! It's giving me the error code "102-17UU-0000" and telling me that the "COM PORT" is set wrong or the cable is defective. The COM PORT is set to 1 and the cable along with everything else was working just fine 20 min. ago. Anyone got any ideas??

Marcus,

As long as your COM port numbers match, please check your Windows Control Panel. Your Port's "port settings" (right click on the port you'll be using and select "properties") need to be as follows:

Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity bits: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

Click "advanced": Use FIFO Buffers = checked, both sliders should be all the way to the right.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you,
Damon DG

I have a similar problem when I plug in my 850 after mx editor is loaded. Once I hook up to the computer I reload the file and it works fine.

UPDATE 2:

Problem seems to be gone. Just created a whole new file for the main system and everything went o.k.. No "COM PORT" message, and no "fail! 6" message either. Scratching my head, but happy never the less.

BTW I've programmed a number of theese for friends, family, and customers and the feedback for my layout (while not that original) has been great. If you're going to have multiple family members using the remote, this seems to work for the tweaks as well as the wives and kids. Deepending obviously on the gear and system cofiguration, yours could be different. This is how the remote looks to my wife and she loves it.

WATCH.....HDTV>
WATCH.....DVD>>
WATCH.....REG>>
BURN........DVD>>
LSTEN.......CD>>>

The "WATCH REG>>" means that she can be recording 2 live shows to the dual tuner PVR box and switch to the tuner in the DVD recorder and watch live TV while the recordings take place. I told her to think of it as watching regular TV without the cable box, which is where the "REG" came from. She's fine with it.

The second page contains direct access to the individual components with a warning that theese are not "activities"

WRONG...PAGE!

J-BOX.......RECVR
TV.............DVD-R
DVD..........HDBOX

Now, keep in mind that my wife is NOT a gear head like myself, but as I stated before, she LOVES this remote. She even talked one of her co-workers at the bank into purchasing an MX-700. And another is going to purchase an MX-850 for her husbands birthday in 2 weeks. Imagine that, 4 bank tellers sitting around talking about MX remotes! Life just got a little better. Now if I could only convince her that she doesn't have to point the remote at the TV every time she wants to do something, my mission will be complete.

Marcus,

That sounds good! It's great that you found your own way of making the remotes more user-friendly than purely functional. :)

Slightly unrelated - anyone know for sure what a "FAIL 0" message is? I have a friend that gets that when simply plugging the cable into his remote & PC... I'm figuring bad cable.

Daniel,

Typically it's a bad COM port setting (not COM port number, but the port settings as I described above). Give that a try and see if it does the trick. :)

Naw, it's all set correctly... and does work with a Pronto classic. He's done some fiddling around, and sometimes when he connects the cable (at the back of the PC) it doesn't give the message but still won't communicate. This was a MX700 bought when they were sold in 3-packs, so he has a hand-made (not by him) cable that I think is very suspect.

My MX850 and 250 seems to work well, however, Whenever I program via the PC I get the following:

Irouut... Fail
Irlamp... Fail
during the download.

Is this normal? Do I have a bad device?

Thanks,
Todd

Getting those messages with the 800 or 850 is perfectly normal. It's due to the RF assignment and your remote should work just fine.

Daniel,

Ah! It's possible that it could be the cable as well. Is there any Microsoft, laptop or PDA "sync" software running in the background? If so, right click it in the system tray and close it. ActiveSync is the only one I'm aware of that doesn't cause any conflicts.

Thank you,
Damon DG
