You advised:
"In your MX-700 Editor, you can export the device(s) with the learned fucntions that are not working in the MX-800 Editor. Right click on the device in the tree menu on the left side of the screen and select "export". You will save it as an MXD device file. This type of file can be imported by opening your program in the MX-800 Editor, then right clicking the device and selecting "import"...basically reversing the process you performed in the MX-700 Editor."

I have the 800 set up from scratch but thought to try your suggestion of importing a couple of devices. All seemed ok until I looked at the "MAIN" on the 800 only to find they were not there. Further, going to the button editor on the MAIN it was completely blank!!! So it seems as if files created on my 700 somehow get totally corrupted in the 800 - a similar situation to that experienced before.

All VERY irritating as I had assumed the files would port across without problem, but not so. BTW I have upgraded both 700 & 800 editors to the latest versions so there should not be a problem there.

Bottom line is I have the 800 configured as I want it for IR. Next thing to tackle is the RF, something which would have been much easier if I could have imported 3 devices from the 700.

So what I'm ending up with is the 700 stays controlling the complex main system while the 800 will not only control the second system (generally operated by my wife) but will be a roving remote around the house for a number of systems. Maybe it should be fitted with a beeper so it can be found more easily :-)

John,

Your files definitely were corrupted for use with MX-800 editor somehow. You should be able to export and import without a problem. If you want to check it out, just download one of the MXF files from the "Files" section here and you shoiuldn't have a problem exporting or importing them.

John,

I know that if you had used a "buggy" version to create a program, typically, the bug remains in the program and not the Editor after an update. This happened to me a couple of times and was confirmed.

Thank you,

Still trying unsucessfully to import files. What am I doing wrong?

1. Export the device file from the 700 (in MX700 editor) & name it. Close the MX700 editor program.

2. Open up the MX800 editor & the current file.

3. Right click on the "MAIN" and select "IMPORT DEVICE" -> open dialog box

4. Highlight the .mxd file I want to import & click "OPEN"

5. The "Import Device" window appears BUT the selected device does not appear - the "Available boxes" window is empty yet a rectangle in the MAIN PAGE is selected.

This happens to every device I try to export from the 700, even one I created (successfully) on the 700 a few days ago using the latest editor program. Are they all corrupted or is the 800 faulty?

TIA

Hi Mike

I got around to importing a file from the database as you suggested. I downloaded for the JVC VHS recorder without problems & it all works fine :-)

Only wish I could either import from the 700 or at least learn codes with no problems so the 800 can do what I want it to.

The corruption of the 700 files perplexes me. If corrupted, how come they work like a charm?

Most frustrating.

OK, I give up.

The clincher is that the walls in this house (lot of double brick) will not allow the RF to transmit though anyway so I've wasted hours & hours trying to learn codes that will not go by RF to be used outside of the main system room.

I'm a slow learner sometimes.

So, the 800 will be confined to the second system where it works fine. But I could have saved myself many dollars and bought another 700 in the first place.

Lesson to those of you lusting after an 800 - make sure you can use the RF effectively. Yes, it is fine within the room and saves pointing it, but, IMHO, the extra dollars for that do not warrent its purchase over a 700.

Thanks again to those of you who tried to help.

According to URC, there is a bug with the current MXEditor version (1.12.230) that is causing your import problem. They are working on it now.

The update was supposed to allow for the importation of an MXD file directly from an MXF file, but now neither works.

apparently the bug is tied in with your files being of an older date. I have had the crashing software issue many times and I have heard from a HTM employee that it is due to old files. I am sure that the update caused the grief. But soon they should have a fix for it*crosses fingers*
