Is anyone using the MX-500 with the Time Warner DVR (Scientific Atlanta 8000)? I'm looking to get a universal remote and want to know if will work this remote.
I'm torn between the MX-500 and the Harmony 659 or 688 but want to make sure the remote will control all of the devices.
My Equipment: Onkyo TX-SR501 Time Warner DVR (Scientific Atlanta 8000) JVC DVD Player Mitsubishi WS-65413
Thanks Jeff

That came up just a few days ago: [Link: remotecentral.com] I don't think you'll have any problems with that unit! David www.BlueDo.com

Hey Jeffery,
I picked up the sa8000 this weekend and the MX500 works great with it. The preprogramed codes do about 70% of the functions and the others are easily learned.
The only conflict id that the remote that comes with the sa8000 has a lot more buttons for the DVR functions so they cannot all be learned to the mx500.

Jim, Remember that there's nothing stopping you from using the LCD buttons for extra codes (two pages there) or even another device altogether (if you have any free)!

BlueDo since you sell both the MX-500 and the Harmony 659, which do you recommend as a reseller of both? I like the Harmony for it's ease of programming via the web and the built-in macros (watch tv, dvd, etc). I know you can do the same on the MX-500 but do you get the same kind of labeling? I only see the M1, M2, M3 buttons on the bottom and I (read my wife) doens't want to memorize what that macro button does. All else being equal I like the price of the MX for all the same features. Since you can program it to learn to do whatever.

They are programmed completely differently, but I think you can make the MX-500's macro capabilities work for you, because you can also put them on the LCD buttons on the MAIN page, so holding the TV button can enact a macro to set up your system to watch TV. Personally, I have been using HTM products for years in my home. Harmony is a great product, it's really a matter of personal preference.

Just regarding the macro thing on the MX-500's LCD, What happens to the LCD screen when a device button is held in long enough to activate the macro ? Does it transmit the macro but remain on the main device select page, or does it run the macro AND switch to the first page of that device ?
Thanks Should get ours tomorrow or Friday.

It can do either. You just go to the page you want to end up on as the last step of programming your macro before saving.

cool, so if you don't actually add a page change at the end of the macro it simply remains on the device select page ?

Unless you designate another device or MAIN, it automatically goes to the first page of the device button you programmed the macro on.
