I have an Mx-700 and now a new MX-3000 and I can program both using win 98 on VPC, the 700 will need a high speed serial adaptor and 3000 is usb and works perfect. The 700 through serial is quirky and not always reliable (you can usually d/l but uploading is very bad) I am running a G4-450 with 10.3.5

I program my MX-3000 using Windows 2000 through Virtual PC 6 on a PowerBook G4 1.25 Ghz running 10.3.5 without any problems.

Thanks for your replys. Have you tried using VirtualPC for any other programing, and if so, how well does it perform?
My PC laptop died on me and I was considering getting a powerbook with VirtualPC rather than purchasing another PC laptop.

Virtual PC for the Mac is sloooow.

It's OK to use to program a single MX-3000 if you are a hobbyiest such as myself, but if you are programimg MX-3000's for a living (ie. CEDIA installer, etc)., then a Windows PC would be the only way to go.

I don't want to go off topic here. There is a lot of easy to locate information on the pro's and cons of Virtual PC on dozens of Macintosh sites, try "Macsurfer" for access to all of them.

I would also have to agree that VPC is very slow (this is why I use Win 98, it seems to run the fastest) , if you are going to do most of your work on the mac side then that's probably the way to go if you do a lot of programming then I would get another PC

Question for you folks using the MX-3000 via Virtual PC: Has anyone had success with any of the following configurations:

  • Windows XP under VPC
  • VPC 7 (as opposed to VPC 6, which folks had working here)
  • OS X Tiger (10.4)

Thanks in advance. I'm considering purchasing an MX-3000, but would like to know that I can access it effectively from VirtualPC. (I agree that it's slow (though not so bad on the dual processor PowerMacs); but it's just for me personally once it's set up, I plan to leave it.)
