I would be very interested in any comments about the display quality (readability) of these two units. After using the TSU 1000 for several years, I've decided to upgrade to either the 3000 or the 7000. I have seen the TSU 7000 and was impressed with its readability, however I cannot find a dealer anywhere in my area that carries the MX 3000. Nearly all of the comments I have read on this and other forums seem to praise the 3000 over the TSU 7000 as far as programmability, and versatility and this sounds exciting. However, I have also seen a few casual comments that the display of the 3000 is not it's strongest suit. Most comments about the 7000 claim an outstanding display (color saturation, clarity, etc.). From my perspective (tired old eyes), I would rather struggle a bit more with programmability and versitility in the interest of a good readable display. Any comments anyone might have would help me a lot in making my decision. Cost of the two remotes is not an issue. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Not sure how much this helps, but I also came from a TSU1000 and decided on the MX-3000. I have not seen a 7000 in person so I can't compare, but I have not had any issues with the quality/visibility of the 3000 screen.

The first thing I do is put a screen protector on so I may not be the best judge :)

The screen on the MX-3000 is not quite as bright as the TSU 7000, but the comments seem to have come from more from those who have seen them side by side and not from someone who has bought an MX-3000 and used it.

What I'm saying is that the MX-3000's screen is very useable. You should have no problems.

What you should look at is the posts from the installers as to how much easier it is to program the MX-3000, and also read the review by Daniel, and decide if you like the form factor. And, as far as I'm concerned, BOTH of them are two-handed remotes.

IMHO.

I just got my MX-3000 and am very happy with the screen quality.

The initial MX-3000s were not the that bright. But the new ones are much better. I talked to Jason at URC and he said they switched screens to one which has a different reflectivity. It is now tougher to see off angle but much better when looking directly at it. I noticed the difference right away and then grabbed an old one to check. The new one is much better. I don't think many people would be looking at these too much off angle.

I've been a Home Theater Master user for the last 9 years, my most recent being the MX-3000. After a two months of use, I've retired my MX-3000 and switched to the Pronto TSU-7000. Primarily because of the poor screen quality of the MX-3000.

I think the screen technology chosen by HTM for the MX-3000 was a major blunder. Every colour PDA, and every colour Mobile Phones has an infinitely better looking screen than the MX-3000, which looks like an ancient Passive matrix LCD in comparison.

Its not just the brightness levels, but colour resolution is pathetic. Colours seldom ever appear as they do on your PC screen, so takes alot of trial and error to get things to look proper on the remote. Whereas with the TSU-7000, colours are vivid and virtually identical to what you see on your PC.

BUT this is a rather subjective topic, I strongly suggest you get your hands on both units and compare them side by side BEFORE you buy either, don't make my mistake.

Try to get a newer version as the colors are better as well. It is a big difference! I program both and the 7000 was definitely nicer and still is but the new 3000 is so close that I would use other criteria to evaluate them ie. ergonomics, etc.

OK, if there are two versions, I'm sure there are other MX-3000 owners like me who would like to know which version they own.

Do you happen to know what the production cut off date or version number is of the better unit with a better screen?

Inside the battery compartment there is a label with the version number and serial number. Mine is "Ver: 2.4, date of producton 060404 000162".

While every manufacturer always has the right to keep improving their products, it strikes me as somewhat outrageous that URC wouldn't enable early adopters of their flagship $1,000 product with an offer to swap an earlier flawed product for the imprved version of the SAME model number for a reasonable charge, say $100-$200 or so.
