Hello,
I have a question about the capabilities of the MX-700. Here is what I'd like to do, and I'd appreciate comments on whether it can be accomplished...
I know that it is possible to create "System On" and "System Off" macros on the "On" and "Off" buttons on the "Main" pages. I'd like to go one step further, and have the "On" and "Off" hard buttons always activate the "System On" and "System Off" macros, regardless of what page is currently active. That way, I don't have to tell users to press "Main" and "Off" to turn the system off--just press "Off".
Then, in order to control the power of the individual components, I would create a device called "Power" with shortcuts to all of the discrete power commands on the individual devices. Thus, I wouldn't ever need to use the hard "On" and "Off" buttons to control power of the individual devices, but the underlying discrete power commands would need to be available for the device called "Power".
Any suggestions for how to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance, Scott

Assuming you have discrete on/off commands for all your components, you can easily do what you suggest. To have the same macro on the "On" and "Off" buttons for all devices, create it on MAIN, then shortcut to it from each device. In addition (or instead of) creating the POWER device, you could put the On/Off commands for each device on LCD-labeled buttons for that device and either leave them accessible or hide the page.

Thanks, Mike. My only concern is that I don't have all of the discretes I need on the component remotes. I might need some from the IR database. In those cases, the code is usually assigned to the hard "On" or "Off" button and isn't learned. Therefore, I don't think I have the luxury of putting the discrete "On" or "Off" codes anywhere I want.
Bottom line, is it true that hard button with a IR database code programmed to it cannot be both a IR source code for macros on other buttons AND a macro button itself when actually pressed?

I believe that's true. However, just about any discrete command that's in the IR database is probably also available from a Pronto file, so you could place it anywhere you want using the Universal Browser.
