This is a question for those of you who own both an MX800 and an MX500:

Is it just me or does the MX500 just feel better? (performance and flexibility aside) I noticed as soon as I felt my new MX800 that it lacked the soft and "grippy" feel that my MX500 had. At first, I just chalked it up to being a new and better built remote. But as time passed I noticed that the buttons didn't "break in". I didn't realize until recently how much more I liked the feel of the MX500 since I didn't have an immediate need for it after byuing the 800. But I've just added a system to the Master bedroom and I'm using the 500 again, and I really like the feel better.
Hmmmm. Are they the exact same size? Could one possibly exchange the "guts" from the 800 to the 500 shell? Is it just coincidence that the 500 has the artificial pc port? Any feedback would be great.

I believe that the MX800 and the MX500 have different transport buttons. But anything is possible.

I have the 500, 700 nad now the 800. I agree that the feel of the 500 is the best!. I hadn't used it for a long time and just programmed it for the bedroom-- your observations are accurate.

I also think the 700 and 800 should be black ( or at least available in black), and I'm not thrilled with the shiny finish of the 800. All that said, they are all great remotes.

Is there any use for the MX200 sidekick that came with my 700 now that I've switched to the 800 and rf? I think not.?

You could always program it separately for use in another room. It's really best for a kids room though.

The button layout of the 500 and 800 are significantly different to make the idea of swapping cases undesirable. The 800 has a third button above the joystick and all three are differently aligned than the two on the 500. The 500 also has three macro buttons below the number keys.

The bottoms are cut from the same mould which is why they both have the bump on the left. I think you could swap the bottoms if you really wanted.

eafk,

Yea, I realized the differences after looking closer @ the remotes. As you can see by my post time it was late, hence the brain cramp. I guess it was just wishful thinking. Looks like Mick Jagger was right; "you can't always get what you want". I just figured if I tried, I'd get what I needed. I just thought between all the people on this site with brains the size of Texas, someone might have figured some way to meld the 2 remotes.

Just to be sure though, does everyones MX800 have stiff buttons? And will they ever break in to the point where they feel even remotely (pardon the pun) close to the MX500? I'm thinking not, since my 800 has got a ton of use in the 6 months I've owned it and the buttons still feel like the first day I tried it.
