I have been a die hard pronto and xantech urc-2 remote fan for years. Have tried other remotes over the years (eg. Harmony,Mx 700- 800, and others....) all only to be not surprised. Not even the least bit. They now reside in a dark corner in my warehouse probably only to see the lite of day when they go to the dump.
But.....
I must say that Universal has hit a good one with the mx-3000. The features like the variables and animations are what we have been asking and waiting for Pronto and others to do for years. With the implatation of these wonderfull features I can honestly say that my company will be fading the use of prontos very soon. Not to mention that the remote is actualy less inexpensive to us and then of course our client. But the greatest value to me as a owner, having to watch my labor costs. The learning curve for prontos for a newbe to be at an acceptable level for me is a year to year and a half, for them to be able to do it completly on ther own. I have been pleasently impresed that after reciving my mx-3000 only friday that I have almost completed my booth program(doing a booth at local home show next month)and am over half done with my personal program. Both complete with dancing baby and both will have fully automated help screens, using animation. And that my two other programers have also just about completed theres.(lots of different ideas we will upload them as soon as we tweak them a bit)There for cuting programing times alot.(which we can never charge actual time for. Has always had to be a flat rate.)
The only draw back I have begun to find is the limited memory of the remote. As I im doing alot of animation. I am sure that they will rectify this. I can only hope that they will do it sooner than later.
I cant wait to see some of the other creative things Daniel and the others will come up with.
AT LAST WE HAVE COME TO THE NEXT LEVEL. AND I THINK UNIVERSAL HAS RAISED THE BAR. AND RAISE THE BAR , BOY DID THEY.
Universal has definatly spent some time in the field with the small custom installer to have come up with these great features and implement them the way they have.(I would hae loved to been part of that) I just hope that they will keep it up and if they do they will certianly go to the top and stay there.
Just my two cents!!!

Just my two cents!!! I'll throw two more in the hat because I really do agree with you 100% on the capabilites of this remote. The more I play with it, the more I see that can be done with it.

No but you cant with a pronto either. Hold with one hand and touch screen with other.

No but just as before you cant with pronto either! You can to a certian extent but not everything. go to hit one button and hit the one next to it. Now you end up looking at it any how. Besides why buy or sell a touch screen remote with custom graphics to not look at it when using it. In my opinion if that is what you are looking to do than you should be using a hard button remote instead.
i'm not saying that everone is going to like it. What I am saying is that if you physical have not put your hands on it for more than just 10 min than you have not given it its fair shake.
I didnt at first either and if it was not for my distributer handing me the remote he was putting in his demo room (didnt get charged for it )for a couple of days to get my opinion on it than I would have never givin it a fair shake. As I said earlier I have tried many remotes and feared that once again my $500 or so would end up in that dark corner of the warehouse again only for my $500 or so to end up in the dump. It was a pleasent surprise. Before I got the remote I was saying much of the same things you guys have asked.
If you have tried It than obviusly it's not for you but if you havent give it a fair shake I think you will be pleasently surprised.

Can you use it - all of it - without looking at it? You can easily use the 16 hard buttons without looking, obviously, but the touchscreen requires a glance, as do all touchscreen remotes.

Looking forward to seeing your files Jeff. Please upload them when you can. This goes for anyone doing advanced things with the 3000. Its easy to figure out how to use it instead of a MX700/800, but the creative aspects and advanced features are what I hope to get different flavors from different members.
Thanks.
