I have read 10 pages into the forum and not found this particular problem. This weekend I couldnt do anything with my 500 dealing with my 811 or 508. Thinking something was wrong with my 500 I started screwing with it. Big mistake...somehow, it turns out my Dish receivers were the problem. They somehow reverted to the same remote addresses. Anyway after fixing this problem with the satellite receivers I tried getting the codes back into the 500 that would now control the satellite receivers at different addresses. The 500 will not accept any learning functions from any remote. They will not delete so I can reprogram. I also cannot scan for codes on the 508. WHen I try up or down on the 508 section all I get is 001. If I try to manually put in the code it shows as I put it in but then reverts back to 001. I know this is not alot of information but It is so screwed up that I cant remember all the things that are wrong now. Any help would be appreciated. I may just have to buy another one.

First - put some brand new batteries in the MX-500 and see if that solves the problem. If not, I think we need some more information to assist you. When you say that "They will not delete so I can reprogram" - do you mean that you've tried to ERASE the learned codes, and they didn't get erased? If that's the case, it sounds like there are pre-programmed codes "underneath" the learned codes that may be confusing you. I'd recommend assigning the device to pre-programmed code AUX 155 (which has no codes in it) and then learn the codes from your factory remote. If you're still unsuccessful, drop me a line, or give the manufacturer a call at 1-(800)-901-0800!

I read about the 155 code this weekend and tried that on the 508 device button but it still reverted to the 001 code. In other words that button will not accept anything ( learned or scan for codes ) I put new batteries in and no luck Saturday. I knew that I didnt give enough info but like I said it was so screwed up ( this being my fault ) that I wasnt sure what was still ok and what was not. I beleive that after changing the remote codes on both sat. rec. that I may have had them the same. What I mean is when I turn the 811 on the 508 comes on now, however when I turn the 508 on it does not affect the 811. One other weird thing is that the channel button works on the 811 but nothing else will. I am at a loss because I had so little effort in programming it the first time. I wish that I could wipe in clean and start over but after reading this morning on this great forum I understand that is impossible. Again I am not able to store anything by way of learning. Could it be that the 811 and the 508 are on the same code when using the 811 button? Could this be why it wont allow me to learn the buttons again?

I just reread your reply again and I havent tried the 155 code on the 811 yet. I will try that when I get home and let you know something tomorrow. Thanks for your help and I did save your website in case I need a new one. I did the buy off the internet with no warranty no no when I bought this remote. I didnt realize it until I started reading this forum.

You can't learn the commands from the 811 & 508's remotes, because they're RF only. And the mx-500 doesn't have codes for alternate remote addresses. You're going to need a third party remote, one that has IR commands for you to teach the mx-500.

Supposedly there is a way to get the IR commands from the 811 receiver itself, similar to Bose 28 & 35 lifestyle systems. You press a key on the RF remote, the receiver gives off the IR equivalent, so the mx0-500 can learn it. See you manual.

I'm not using the 811 remote. I am using one of the blue button remotes. It learned it before I assumed it would again. Thanks for the heads up though. The manual is a peice of crap like the 811 BTW.
I went the route you described this weekend. You would never believe it but the CSR said that the 811 remote would be fine to program my universal remote. I said yea and thanks...BYE.

EDIT: I am going to try the 155 code when I get home and tomorrow if I havent fixed it I will order a new one. Thanks to everyone for their help. I have a birthday Friday and will try and recover my $100 and some odd dollars then.

I'd suggest doing some more research first. I looked at both the 811 and 508's manual available on Dish's website. Both units have an IR receiver and suggest they can be controlled via IR remote. URC has a code for the 811 in their MX Editor for the MX-700/800. I know through personal experience they can modify an existing file for use in the MX-500. Remember the MX-700/800 has additional capabilities the MX-500 doesn't, among them memory capacity. It doesn't cost anything to send it to them, call first to get their RA number. On the 001 issue, if a code doesn't reside in the MX-500 FLASH memory, it can't be selected for use.

I brought my remote to work with me this morning. I will try to give it to y'all step by step.

Main + Enter goes to setup
P-Pro then 508 button
From table 508 button again
It has 001 as the code and says enter number
When I try to enter any number it gives three --- then reverts back to 001. This is my problem with the 508 button which used to be vcr 2. It worked before.
Now with the 811 button. It will not control what it used to after putting the code in for the 811 ( without learning anything). For example:it would at least control the channel, prev channel menu and so forth. I had to learn a couple of things but not many. Now after putting the code it it will control nothing but the channel up and down.
All you guys have to tell me is you have no idea what is wrong and my wife will beleive it and I can order another one. Thanks again for at least trying to help.

BTW I think I found the answer to the question as to 811 remote and IR blast [Link: satelliteguys.us]

The VCR 2 key is empty of codes, it tells you in the manual that you need to use the VCR 1 code table, if you want it to be a VCR. But if you want it to be a SAT, after you hit 0508 key(formly VCR2) then you need to hit SAT key, and then enter the code. This goes for all devices that you move, you will always get the codes for these devices from their original positions.

Alright that worked...at least it will let me enter a number. I am still at work so I will try when I get home. When you say hit sat button before entering a code you do mean the button I have listed as 811 ( which used to say sat ) ??? Thanks maybe this will work.

Yes, but it will have no effect on whatever device is programmed to the SAT key presently. When programming a P-PRO code, you're asked first, "what device button", this is key where the device will be located. Then you're asked "what code table", if you're programming a SAT, you will always hit the fourth button down on the RIGHT. If you were programming a SAT to the SAT key, you would press the SAT key twice. Aux codes will always come from the bottom device key on the LEFT, CABLE bottom key on the RIGHT.

Ok, that makes sense. I dont remember it being explained like that in the manual. I dont get along very well with written instructions, I prefer to trial and error first. Probably why its screwed up now. Thanks again.

That was the problem. Thanks, its fixed. I learned the codes from the 811 but after many attempts the only problem is the channel up wont work. I can deal with that though.

Try this:

1. main and ent
2. punch
3. CH
4. 811 device
5. 811 device again
