I copied my mx700 mxf file to the 800 editor and everything works great on the new mx800-- I now want to tweak my discretes and found a few discretes in others' files, but I don't want their whole device\layout\entire setup-- just a few buttons from here and there.

1. What is the best way to take a discrete power code from one file and import just that command to your own?

2. Where are some good examples of activity layouts so my wife finds this unit easier to use?

3. Where is a good explanation of putting both a macro and regular function on the same buttons? I read this somewhere before but never used it.

Thanks as always.

1. As long as the command is a learned command, you can use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy and paste it from the imported device to whatever location you want it in your configuration.

2. Here's one I did awhile ago:

3. From Page 50 of the MXEditor programming manual:

"If the LCD button is programmed with an IR code from the Database, then a tap will issue the code, while a press and hold will issue both the single code and a macro. However, the two functions on one button “feature” will not work with shortcuts. You might have just the surround sound receiver’s input if you tap, and a macro if you press and hold the button. The only caveat is that if the normal action is a Learned Code, you select LEARN & MACRO from the Device list in the Edit and Label Buttons window. This enables two functions on one button for a Learned code.
No special action is required for Pre-Programmed codes from the database. Just program the Macro AFTER the database code is programmed."

Thanks Mike and thanks for the good service in connection with delivering my MX 800.

I guess if the code is not "learned" there is no way to move it? Macro's don't seem to copy over even if you take the entire device( with all the macro steps)- is that a known issue?

Question on your layout-- you have macros on all 10 buttons-- Which button does the wife press to get the action? Left or right? Are they the same? Are the individual devices on the second main page?

It would be nice if someone could publish this type of layout and all one has to do is learn the indiviual codes for their equipment and the programming does the rest--

Thanks for your help.

If the code's not "learned" (ie: from the IR database, then using the copy and paste will only create a shortcut to that button. So, you'd have to import the .mxd file, dlete all the buttons you didn't want, then shortcut to the buttons you do want from the positions you want them to be in. Most discrete commands in an .mxd file likely came from a Pronto file, in which case they show up as "learned" anyway.

Yes, the macros are the same and the individual devices are on MAIN page 2. Also, to make it even easier, the "ON" button has a macro that goes to the most-used activity, in this case "Watch Tivo". The "OFF" button has an "all-off" macro with discrete off commands.
