I do not want to shell out double the price for the 800, but will i be sorry.

I have all the original remotes for the HT, but I like to mess around with an HTPC. So I may eventully use a USB- URIT and Girder.

Will I be able to get along with the 600, or do I really NEED the 800 to be happy?

BTW I do need RF

I don't think that the 800 will give you anything you cant do with the 600 from a technological standpoint. That is to say, they both learn IR commands, they're both programmable, and they both utilize IR-RF in a similar fashion.

What you pay more for is the computer programmability, individually assignable IR flashers, and more remote macros, programming memory, and devices.

If you don't NEED that, you'll be happy. If you're going to miss the computer programming, you can get an IRClone-MX. This will give you easier access to discrete codes and allow you to back-up your remote. As well as making programming it easier.

thanks,

2 questions still

1 - how does the IRClone compaire to the native edit software for the 800 when it comes to ease of use

2 - my eqpt is behind some curtains, so I am a little concerned that the 600 will shoot off both rf and ir, and somtimes, if the ir get past the curtains they will cancel or duplicate each other, with the 800 you can turn off IR.

Does anyone have that problem?

1. IR Clone software is developed by a third party and covers the basics of programming the remote. It gives you the ease to tweak and move commands around as well as the ability (through other software still) to use discrete codes. The software that comes with the MX-800 is developed by the manufacturer and is required to program the remote. My nod would have to be to the 800 software as it's designed from the ground up to work with the remote. HTM also offers regular upgrades of the firmware and software through the computer interface.

2. Double signals can be problematic. And you're right about being able to turn off the MX-800's IR. This is something you're going to want to consider.

If you can afford the MX-800 you're less likely to be disappointed. If you're stuck with the MX-600, you can make it work. Just buy thicker curtains. :)

I haven't had any problems with the MX-600 sending both IR and RF all the time. The signals are so close to one another in time that only one gets through.

You could always "tape over" the receiving eye/IR flashers on your gear if it is a problem.

In this case it might just be easier to tape over the front of the MX-600. :)

Like I said, If you've got the money, go with the 800. :)

Now that's an interesting solution - turn it into RF only. 'Course you'd have to set up a flasher for your TV ;-)
