I have programmed my MX 700 to learn forward and backwards from the Tivo remote onto the joystick forward and backwards buttons. THey work alright for a day, then I need to reprogram them.

Am I doing something wrong? I get them to work, put away the laptop, and then a half hour later, I am pulling out the laptop again.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Did you learn these buttons from your remote? If so they could be on the edge of being interpretted right/wrong.
Dying batteries also result in flakiness.
Check the files section for a Tivo config and try it and see if it makes a diff.

Thanks,

The batteries are fresh. The codes were learned from the Tivo peanut.

Also, I was trying to learn the 30 second skip, and teach it to the pause button, but it would not take. I finally taught it to one of the LCD buttons. I would still like to move it to the pause button because it is in the similar position on the MX 700. I guess I could do a shortcut.

Thanks,
DC

Check your punch through settings. There may be another device's transport controls (including "Pause") punched through to the Tivo device, overriding the learned command.

Also, I was trying to learn the 30 second skip,
and teach it to the pause button, but it would

I also had similar problems my MX-700, but with these differences: I programmed the Tivo Up/Dn/Left/Right commands to the MX-700 Up/Dn/Left/Right joystick pad. I also had a problem programming the MX-700 pause button; I don't remember the details. Also instead of using the MX Editor I "learned" the commands directly from the Tivo remotes.

What I did to fix it: I just kept trying and finally I got the Up/Dn/Left/Right commands to stick. They initially seemed to "evaporate" after a while, since I had to re-learn them a couple of times. I had fresh batteries. I put the Tivo pause on the MX-700 pause button. After a few tries, it persisted.

I used the MX-700 stop button for the Tivo "slow mo" function.

My MX-700 joystick pad isn't as fluid or responsive as the Tivo pad. Sometimes I think it's lost the programming, but after pressing the pad more carefully, it works.

At first I planned on using 30-sec skip, but after I became accustomed to the Tivo "fast forward compensation", I no longer needed the skip function. The FF compensation automatically backs up a calibrated amount after going from FF to play (different amounts for FF2 and FF3). This allows you to FF over a commercial, wait until you see the program resume, then hit play and not miss any of the program.

Thanks all,

I just learned the skip to an LCD button and I am getting used to it.

I appreciate the help.
