Greetings all, I just purchased my 3000 and I LOVE IT. I have been having a great time programing it but I have come accross one odd problem.

I am using the VAR "trick" to simulate discrete codes for my devices that do not have descrete codes. I have made them for the TV, Cable box, and 2 DVD players. The DVD players work fine everytime but the TV and Cable boxes act very random. Once they were created I turned off both and tried the buttons and sometimes they will work sometimes they won't. Has anyone used this function yet? Any ideas, let me know what other questions you have about how it is set up.

Thanks in advance
Sam

Try inserting small delays between codes if you're stringing more than one together in a macro. I would start with a large delay to see if this is indeed the problem, like a half to a second, then bring the delay down to the minimum for reliable execution in your environment. Once you find that spot it should be consistent. I found this to be a problem with reliable execution at times.

The problem is this isn't in a macro. THis is from the fake descrete codes from the last few pages of teh programing manual. When I first make the buttons they will work for a few times then they will switch and the POWERE ON will turn the TV off and the other way around.

I am sure I am missing a simple setp but I can not figure it out.

It's hard to tell without seeing your file, but the "Power On" button should be set at Option 0 and contain a macro with the "Power" command followed by a variable set at "1". The "Power Off" button should be set at Option 1 with a variable at "0". You should see both the "P" (or "L") and "M" labels on each button.

Thanks, I finially figured it out, it took a few .5sec pauses and taking a couple of secs each time I downloaded the new version to set the right states on each device. That plus some delays in the all on / off macros and it is working fine now.

Now tonight I get to spend some time playing with the RF module. This will really help my DVD player since the sensor seems to be "flaky" on what angle it takes commands from so the direct RF feed should help that alot.

I absolutly love this remote, I can not believe how easy it is to create my vision.

The really fun part of my remote is that I have a 300 DVD changer so I put in little pics of each movie that when you select it counts down to the time then loads the movie.

My GF is thriled because now she can watch TV or a movie even if I am not here to help.

Cool. I'm still working on some custom graphics for mine, but a graphic artist I'm not. ;-)

That is my problem, I really want an animated count down GIF for when my movies load but I just can't make it look right. Oh well back to the drawing board.

Unfortunately, the kind of animation you'd need to make the traditional "radar" style movie countdown would create a HUGE GIF file. The MX 3000 can handle it, but it would really tax the remote to run that at full screen.

Yeah I know that is another problem, I am thinking something small like animated numbers or something. I know what I would like to see but I have no idea how to go make it. Oh well for now I have created several pages each with each lower number on it then I added that to the macro with a 1 sec pause between. It isn't pretty but it does have some "WOW" factor.

What size are you thinking of. If it's small enough, it may be reasonable. You can use larger animated GIFs on the MX 3000 than you can on the web because no time is spend downloading them. On they're in memory, they're there.

The one thing about the fake discrete codes is that if the device gets powered on or off outside of the commands controlling the variable, the device and the remote will get out of sync. Should that happen, press the Off command in the remote than turn ths device off either manually or through some other button that doesn't mess with the variable.

DJ: yeah I knew that would happen, but what was happening to me was not this. I was only using the buttons I made and it was still messing up. I have seemed to have it figured out as my on / off macro has worked for over 1 week now with no problems.

I just have to say again, I love this remote and I am very much looking forward to getting some "WOW" factor from it when I have some freidns over this weekend.
