I just bought a MX-700 and I'm reading the programming manual. I so far can't understand what a "punch through" command is and does. Can someone here offer a simple explanation for this function?
Thank you.

If you have your receiver and DVD programmed. Now when you are watching DVD you are in the DVD page which controls all your DVD functions, but what if you want to raise the volume on your receiver? You wouldn't want to go back to your receiver page simply to adjust the volume and go back to your DVD to play, pause, etc.
The punch through punches the volume command from the receiver page to the DVD page. So now, while on the DVD page you can still control the volume on your receiver.

qwerty,
Thank you for the very concise explanation!
What other functions might be typically used as "punch throughs"?

If you open the "Punch Through" panel in MXEditor, you'll see it has quite a few, including Volume & Mute, Channel, transport (Stop, Play, FF, Rewind etc.) and channel numbers. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com
