well, my backlight button stopped working again. i know that it's still under bluedo's 2 year warranty, but it's takes sooo long to get it back. has anyone else had your backlight button go out more than once? and go out within 2 months of the 1st repair? i am not looking forward to being without my remote for that long; life sucks around here without it. aaaarrrrgggghhhh

I've had mine for 2 years and never had a problem. Sorry to hear about your issues.

I thought mine had failed, but it had just got disabled in the settings. I never disabled it and I wondered if it might be automatically turned off when the battery gets low. Something to check.

Something to check. please explain. how does the backlight get disabled in the settings? where in the settings does one go to enable or disable. this is a new one for me if this is true.

In the setup menu, select "LIGHT". The top left button says "ON". Push it once and it will change to "OFF". Press "SAVE" and exit. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

The backlight may just have gone out again. The connection of the backlight button at the circuit board sometimes breaks and the only option is to have it repaired.

Is there an easy way to get the case open on a MX-500?

Mine went out a while ago. Ifinally got around to opening the case and, as I suspected, two solder joints had broken, allowing the actual switch to tilt up enough so the case-mounted button misses it.
I have always babied the remote, and see no good reason for these failures. Well, actually, there IS one! The switch is a surface-mount type, and the leads are pretty weak given the repeated mechanical stress they endure. Long story short: HTM should be reinforcing the switch with a dab of epoxy or other material. After reflowing the joints, that's exactly what I did!

My backlight just went out (well, actually, it has been very erratic for a while--taping on the case would bring it up). I've had mine for a little while--I don't remember where I got it. I know it was on-line but I can't find my receipt. I guess I'll either have to live without a backlight or get a new remote. (Of course I've got bigger problems as I live in Alabama (near Montgomery) and Ivan is bearing down.)
