It is a little late to be asking these questions, since I just ordered an MX-700 from bluedo last night (OB special). But they came to mind this morning so here goes:

1) Is there a consensus on how well liked the joystick is? I did a search and found one or two people who didn't like the center button (hard to push without tipping the stick accidentally). I will be using the joystick alot for navigating the guide on my cable box. I prefer discrete cursor/select buttons because I think they are easier and expect them to last longer. I'm excited about this remote and hopefully the joystick will be the only compromise I'll have to get used to. So does anyone like the joystick? Have there been any reliability problems with it?

2. Does bluedo have a return policy if I find I don't like the remote? I didn't see anything on their website about that.

3. How do you tell what firmware your remote has, what the latest available is, and can the end user update it? Is the firmware automatically updated when you do a full download to the remote with the MXEditor?

4. Has anyone had good luck controlling a SA3250 cable STB with the MX-700? It was not in the MXEditor database (even after a live update). I saw some MXF files on this web site for it, and was wondering if anyone has tried those and if they worked OK. Is it better to just have the MX-700 learn from the SA3250 remote?

5. I will be swapping out the SA3250 someday for a SA8000HD DVR if time Warner ever makes them available. Anyone have good luck controlling one of those?

Thanks for any info/comments. I'm very excited about this remote. I tried a Harmony 768 several months ago and both my wife and I hated the scroll wheel.

My system:
TV: Samsung HLN467
DVD: Samsung 931HD
STB: SA3250HD (passport S/W)

Thanks again,

Sooke

Honestly, we don't hear complaints about the thumbpad anymore. The problems were resolved a long time ago.

We offer a 30 day return policy for your convenience.

The MX-700 uses software on your PC to update it. When you first get the remote, load up MX Editor and do a Live Update. Then do a Full Download to the remote.

It's not necessary to have the codes in the built-in IR Database, or MXD or MXF files - as long as you have the factory remote, you can easily and quickly learn the codes!

I've heard that model works just fine with any remote, so I don't anticipate any problems.

I get occassional mis-hits using the center button of the joystick, not too often though, I use it for "enter" on my TiVo. Great remote though. I had TSU200 and HArmony 688, like the MX700 the best. Good luck!

I had a lot of misfires with the joystick. It's me with a condition that gives me tremors with certain motions. I programmed the "Mute" button (which I never used) to be the center push on the joystick. I could manage the up/down,<> OK.

Hey, thanks for the responses. Nice to hear directly from bluedo also.

Can't wait for it to get here. From just playing with the MXEditor so far, this remote is really speaking to the geek in me.

Sooke,

My wife didn't see me for 3 days after my MX-700 arrived. It's a ton of fun to play with once you get used to the quirks in the Editor.

I've had no problems with the joystick, and I use it a lot, too.
