I was just wondering if there was a certain order of programming the MX-500. The manual says program the devices first and some of the posts suggest doing something with the LCD labels first. I was wondering if it really matters.

I would love to hear the actual steps some of you took when programming the MX-500 for the first time.

If you're going to program by using the the preprogrammed codes, then use them first, see how the LCD-labeled buttons have been assigned (ie: does the command match the label) and change any that are wrong. If you're going to program by learning, then you need to change any labels that don't match what's on your original remotes so that you won't have to remember which commands you learned to mislabled buttons.

Thanks Mike

So I should get my labeling plan together, physically change the labels according to that plan before I even learn anything to mx-500??

Then I just start the learning process?

Silly question:

In another post Mike, you told me how to transfer files or codes from the ofa remote to the MX-500
1. Press and hold MAIN and ENTER to go into programming mode.
2. Press LEARN
3. Press the device you want to learn to.
4. Press the button on that device that you want to learn to.
5. Press the corresponding button on the 8810
6. Repeat with any other buttons you wish to learn
7. Get out of programming mode by repeatedly pushing MAIN

Mike

I assume that I wait until last to learn the discrete codes?

In other words should I learn all the oem remotes to the MX-500 and then learn the discrete from the 8810w & ofa/2103?

Also just to make sure I have it correct, the only things I have to take from the 8810w & 2103 are the discrete codes that I personally set up?

If not or anything here looks incorrect, please let me know.

Thanks
Mark

Sounds good to me. ;-)

You can learn in the discretes at any time. The main thing is if you have any relabeling done before you start learning, the process will go smoothly.

I don't know if it was mentioned to you previously, but there are some nice spreadsheets for planning your labels here.
