I am looking into buying an MX-500. A question I have however is, if I buy the IRClone device, do I still need a JP1 remote to program discrete codes?

Thanks

No again. You can get virtually any code you need by using the Pronto to IRClone utilities. BTW, you likely do not need JP1 anyway to teach discrete codes to your remote, just an OFA remote with it’s advanced code capabilities.

I guess I am confused. So I don't need the JP1 for discrete codes, but I need a one 4 all remote for them?
Is there any way to get the discrete codes with out the one for all?

Thanks

no, you miss read what he wrote.

The OFA remotes tend to have a lot of discrete codes built in. So if you would have gone with a OFA remote instead of IRclone, then there are good chances that the OFA remote would have the discrete codes and you would not need a JP1. But if you decide to go with IR clone, then chances are you don't need either, since the file sections here probably contain the codes you want.

But there are many other reasons to get IRClone. The remote is much easier to program and you will find that you are more likely to tweak your programing to get it perfect when you have it. You can save various versions of your programs and change back and forth at will. The ability to get discrete codes with IRClone came as a result of utilities that were writen by 3rd parties who wrote programs for themselves and then made them available to all.

Regarding discrete codes (or advanced codes) form OFA remotes see here:

Are there any 3rd party utility programs you recommend for converting pronto files(or other) that IRClone can use?

There is one posted here at Remote Central

It is also available at the IRClone site along with others utilities

There is also the MXLearn utility which lets you learn directly to a IRClone file

I think the version of CCF2MX at remote central might be out-of-date (contains a small bug). I recommend you get the "version 2" from IRClone's own website - that's the most recent (fixed) version.

If anyone wants any more features adding to CCF2MX, let me know. I've had no feedback on it so I presume a) noone's using it or b) everyone's happy!

Regards
Rory (CCF2MX author)

PS: I will get round to updating the version on remote central (honest!)

Rory,

I just received my mx-500 and irclone this week. I used CCF2MX version 2 to enter about a dozen discrete codes. It worked great.
