My Urc-9800 was starting to give me memory problems so I was looking at the Home Theater Master MX-700. I was wondering what most of you think about it. It sales for $162 on ebay.

I bought mine that same way about a month or so ago, and I love it. I had to do a little reading and resarch (mainly here) to find the descrete codes that were missing from the database. It took a little time to get used to using the MX editor. But once I got comfortable with it (an hour or so) it was easy. Actually, it was quite fun to design and program the remote to do what I wanted. Now Mine, completely controls two Dish Receivers (508 and 6000), Mits TV, Yamaha AMP/Receiver, Mits VCR, and Yamaha DVD player.

Bottom line, I love my MX-700. I put away all the other remotes.

It also nice to know that any enhancements/changes that I need can be done easily.

Howwever, you should really consider purchasing the MX-700 from an authorized dealer. You will not have a warranty if you purchase from just anyone.

I bought mine online in an open box and it is perfect. The computer user interface is easy to understand and clear instructions are provided. Most of my components were in the database. I did have to build my VCR but it was simple enough to do. The product review on this site will give you a good idea if this is the remote for you.

My only complaints about the unit are:
-Only 5 pages of favorite channels are allowed
-You are limited to 5 characters to describe a component or function.

Good luck.

I was looking for a remote very hard for about 3 weeks. I spent time online, in magazines and several high end stores. I ended up going with the mx500 based alot on this site and everyones reviews. i bought mine on ebay for $100. It does absolutely everything I need. The lack of discrete codes i found out about after buying, that I would need another basic universal remote and jp1 cables for about $20 or IRclone for $80. IF, that is IF, youre going through ebay , i would just go with the mx700... if your going through an authorized dealer, it's significantly more expensive.. many of the ebay sellers are large stores, so you might be able to maintain the warranty for 1 yr..... not sure.

I got my MX-700 through Ebay. The only thing I found was that my ON button is reversed and it says NO. Doesn't really bother me as long as the remote works and it's kind of funny to tell people not to touch that button and see what they do.

Anyway, I did the research and am quite pleased. The only other thing that surprised me was the lack of USB support. I had no idea about this and was not happy waiting for CompUSA to open the next day before I could start playing with the remote.

Other than that, it's been great.

If money is not a big problem, then definitely go with the MX700: It is just so much better in terms of macro capability and the MX Editor makes complete computer programming an absolute joy. Discrete codes [ or the lack thereof in some cases, to be more specific ] is what we all have a problem with. BTW, you can get a USB to serial adapter. Can't go wrong with the MX700.

If you read the pop-up on Home Theater Master's website, it is very clear that they will NOT honor the warranty if you buy any of their products from non-authorized online or brick-and-mortar stores.

They have a list of the online stores on their site, and obviously eBay is not one of them. Also, any of the stores - however big they are - that operate through eBay and are not on the list on HTM's site, willl not be able to provide factory warranty. If they warranty it themselves, I would get that in writing from them.

I bought my MX-500 from an authorized dealer because his price was similar to ebay's. But, let's see, $163 on ebay or $350 from an authorized dealer....... I can buy TWO of these on ebay for the price of ONE from a so called "authorized" dealer. How long can the authorized dealers can keep their prices so high when someone selling it for $163 is already making a profit? I would go with ebay and use the option of buying a 2nd one if the first one fails (still would not have spent $350. I am all for supporting dealers who support this forum (as I did when I bought the MX-500) but not to the tune of paying 2X!!!! the ebay price.

Here we go again...

There's NOTHING wrong with buying these remotes from EBay. I got mine through EBay a couple months ago and it was inexpensive, shipped promptly, and works great. Period. Don't let 'factory' warranty issues scare you from buying a great product at a great price!

I kind of agree with this a little. Mine was purchased for $162 and works great and even though I love it wouldn't spend anywhere near $300 for it. I can get a cheap learning remote to do what I need to do if I had to for $50. I took chance and hopefully I won't have any problems with it. Knock on wood!

No one is stopping anyone from buying on eBay. All I wanted to do was give you a "heads up" about the warranty.
