This may be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway.
Is there any advantage to having a URC 8811 or other remote to try to get the discrete codes which are not available on the MX700 database? Or, the question really is, does the MX700 have as many discrete codes in its database as the URC 8811 and other remotes of the URC genre?
I can understand the usage of the 8811 with the MX500, but is the database of codes on the 8811 more extensive for discrete and other codes than the database available for the MX700? If it is, it might be an advantage to my MX700.

It would only be an advantage if the 8811, through the use of advanced codes or JP1, had access to commands that were not available from a Pronto CCF, or could not be converted to a hex format to create a CCF. I don't know of any such cases offhand. Do you have a specific component in mind? Mike www.SurfRemote.com

Yeah Mike:
I have a Panasonic Home Theater SC-HT690/700. It is a home theater setup with speakers and a built in 5 carousel DVD/CD player, radio tuner, etc..
I couldn't find any discrete codes for the on and off buttons, either in the Pronto database .ccf files or anywhere else.
There are work arounds with the receiver/DVD unit. If you manually eject the tray or perform other functions manually, the unit turns on. However, the remote that comes with the unit does not have the eject button.
I was hoping that the other remote databases might just have these functions in them.
I saw on some of the other threads that the URCs sometimes have functions that aren't actually on the original remotes that come with the equipment.

Have you tried some of the generic Panasonic on/off discretes? Look at the ones for the RP-91 DVD player and the ones in "Panasonic 3" under the TV section of the IR database. They may work.

Mike:
I tried both of those panasonic files and no command from those files works on my panasonic sc-ht 690/700. I was hoping that the eject (which is missing from my original remote) would work but it didn't. As I said, none of the commands worked, period.
Oh well, I guess I just have to cope with the stupid toggle on/off codes from the original remote.
Thanks for the suggestion though,
Sal
