Sorry guys

I have not even started programming my MX-500 yet. I took time to read all of the RemoteCentral.Com's Main Review. It seems to indicate that it is OK to first enter all the preprogrammed codes and then pesonalize from there.

What do you guys think?

Mark

There's usually no problem with using preprogrammed codes and then adding missing commands by learning. However, you have to test each button to see if it works correctly and others may not work as labeled. Also, you may want to move some of the LCD buttons to more convenient locations. Then you have to relabel LCD buttons and learn additional commands. In the time it takes to do all that, you could have learned all the commands from your original remote (maybe two remotes).

Another problem that can occur (although infrequently) is that FAV macros may not work properly (sending repeated commands). This is where using the AUX 155 code and learning the commands usually solves the problem. Hope that helps.

HD Digital Cable Box: Motorola DCT5100 with an AT&T 200C Remote

Personally, I would apply the AUX 155 code to each device I was going to use, then, plan out my LCD labels for each device using a piece of paper or one of the LCD label planners found here. Think about which commands (that aren't on the hard-labeled buttons) you use the most for a particular device and place them on the first page of your LCD buttons for that device. I would then edit all the labels accordingly and then just line up each original remote and learn away. YMMV.

YMMV.

What is YMMV?

Also the plans seem a little hard to follow.

Should I just take my TV remote and just point it at the MX-500 and see what happens?

Sorry, I get so used to using web acronyms I forget not everyone has seen them before.

YMMV = "Your Mileage May Vary"

I'm not sure what you mean by the plans being hard to follow. Are you talking about the LCD label planners or the MX-500 manual re: learning commands?

I mean both, but I'm sure as I get the hang of all this, those too will make sense.
