I just purchased and MX-500. Other than system on and off, and device macros that put each device on the proper tv and receiver inputs, what interesting and creative things have you guys done?
Thanks
Greg

When I had a 500 I used the M-keys to change the aspect ratio of my TV (which requires navigating several menus). This could then be used no matter what device I'm in at the time.

Now that I have an 800 the oppotunities are much greater. I have a device named ROOM which on page 1 has:

WATCH MOVIE
PAUSE MOVIE
RESUM MOVIE
DONE DAY
DONE NIGHT

The buttons on each side have the same macros for simplicity. Each macro controls my HT's lighting, curtains, and projector screen. I used to change power there too, but later decided to handle that separately.

My fav macro of these is PAUSE MOVIE. It changes the theater's lights to "scene 6" (half on, slow ramp speed to allow eyes to adjust in that room & kitchen, lights on in hall bathroom so people can see to walk there), open two inside curtains to bathroom and kitchen (but not outside windows) for 1.7 seconds then stop (opens exactly the width of room opening while still covering other open areas), and send pause commands to DVD, LD and DirecTiVo (so whatever I'm watching is paused).

Lighting is X-10 SwitcLincs and IR543. Curtains are Makita. Projector screen is Stewart. All are IR controlled.

I have about 25 macros but one I use a lot is I often want to know which movies are coming up on all channels in the next 1/2 hour so that I can record on TIVO any ones that I want. To accomplish with the TIVO remote takes 10 keystrokes going through various levels of menus and submenus. With a macro it's only one button press.

my favorite MX500 macro is 'power off'...

it always wnds on an 'info' screen, which has my cell phone number on it (just in case the customer has any questions.. heh)

that 'info' screen also tells them which room the remote belongs in (if they have multiple systems, that is)
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

I have several "FAV" macros for lighting scenes. My favorite macro is my M3, which executes the DVR "skip 30 seconds ahead" six times, which is the length of most commercial breaks.

After buying an ir543 X-10 controller for my system, I set up both the M1 and M2 buttons at the bottom of the remote to send an All Units Off. M2 also turns on a light in the bedroom.

If i'm leaving the house, I press M1. If I'm shutting down for the night, M2.

On my mx700 DVD screen I have a ">SAT" macro that pauses the current movie, turns on the Satellite STB and then switches the tv input to the STB. This allows me to pause the movie and watch tv while the little woman checks on screaming kids.
Then the SAT screen has a ">DVD" that returns everything to the DVD watching state without losing my spot in the movie.

Any chance you could post some of those tivo macros. I am brand new to the mx-800 and would love to take a look at them

Nothing particularly special but these are some of the main ones I use.

To find out what movies are playing in the next time slot:

TIVO MENU
6
D ARROW
D ARROW
R ARROW
R ARROW
R ARROW
D ARROW
R ARROW
MAIN
TIVO DEVICE

To find out what general programs are starting in the next time slot:

TIVO MENU
6
R ARROW
R ARROW
D ARROW
R ARROW
MAIN
TIVO DEVICE

To find any movie or program by name search:

TIVO MENU
4
R ARROW
MAIN
TIVO DEVICE

Then I use a page of FAV macros for the standard TIVO shortcuts such as Season Pass Manager, To Do List, Manual Record by Time or Channel, Browse by Time, Browse by Channel, Wishlists etc. etc.

I have my TIVO Menu command on the DISPLAY button so the macro for Season Pass Manager is only:

DISPLAY
1

and the rest are the same except for the different numbers for each shortcut.

Hope this helps,

Tony
