Well, despite warnings on this forum about the latest update to MX Editor, I took a chance on it anyway because I was really hoping for some updates to the IR database. (they weren't there, of course)
For my trouble, my previously stable Editor has been upgraded to a new-and-improved, crash-happy, crap version.

Anyone have any suggestions, or back-outs? (Maybe a full removal of the s/w, and then a fresh install from my previous file, downloaded a couple months ago... )

Thanks,

Aaron

I haven't had those problems with mine, but it sounds like the best thing would be to uninstall it and go back to your old version as you suggested.

I'd give the manufacturer a call, as there may be an opportunity for them to either help you, or you to help them with a bug fix! 1-(800)-901-0800

I had a similar problem with an MX-700 after an update. I upgraded to an MX-800 and the software worked great until I did the most recent update. Now I get frequent crashes again with the MX-800.

I'd avoided the early August update after reading about several people having problems...but a few days after this latest update nobody was mentioning problems so I went ahead and updated.

My remote configuration is fairly mature - all needed codes are learned, devices built; I hadn't modified it in about 6 weeks but did need to move a few of the buttons around. I hadn't used the LCD Button Editor in my earlier programming - but that was all I used in the last refinement...in moving 10-12 keys I had probably 5-6 crashes...basically wound up move a key & save, move a key & save. Didn't know if this was just typical with the LCD Button Editor or if that function had been stable in earlier versions..??!! If its crashing that often in all other functions, that's a bad deal...glad I'm finished...(for the time being!!)

Windows/XP Home; latest service packs and fixes installed...desktop PC and serial connection...

Same problem here, I get a lot of crashes when moving buttons around. Have to do them one at a time and save.

Funny thing is, many CI's want a formal program to weed out the hacks and wannabes, myself included. -bigpapa

Yes, this is definately the same issue!
Editor has been crashing when using the LCD button editor. Every couple of times, or so - usually when I have forgotten to save recently.
(By the way, I am also running on XP - an otherwise VERY stable laptop)
Editor never crashed in hours of playing around prior to the update, so I'm quite sure the latest version is the problem. I think I will try the re-install, and let you know how it goes...

Thanks,

I hate to sound like a broken record, but are you folks contacting URC with your bug reports? They are very interested in fixing everything and would definitely benefit from your input!

Hey, we monitor the forums and the programmers are hard at work trying to see why some users are crashing. I will update everyone as soon as I know something solid.

Many users are reporting no problems with the current update, so the programmers may need to send someone with a problem a file to diagnose with.

If those of you with problems could call or email me I would appreciate it.

Best Regards,

-Eric

I just installed the August update and am experiencing crashes whenever I move LCD buttons around(same as other users) on my MX-800.

Eric of URC: My MX-700 had the same problem about 6 months ago, but one of the software upgrades fixed it. Your programmers might look for clues in any release changes that would cause this problem to be turned "on" and "off".

p.s. I noticed the URC website still has the older version of software as the default download. Does this mean we are all beta testers for the new release?

Well:

I guess that I'm experiencing the same problem with the crash and then sending the error code message. I wonder who really looks at these error code messages and who do they go to? Is it Microsoft that reviews them if they get too many on a certain software program? Does it go to the originator of the software? I could never get an answer to that question.

I'm trying to save frequently also. Come to think about it, it crashes more often when I move the LCD buttons around also.

If anyone who has this problem is willing to run an experiment, we have created a version that will create a log file of what happens when the system crashes. This will help us identify the problem. We still haven't experienced it on any of our PC's.

Just send me an email if you would like to help out. It is not a fix, but will help us find out why some PC's are having this problem.
