HI,

I have just recently purchased a Mx700. I would like to program the remote on a mac. I have installed virtual pc and can run mx editor, but can't get the usb port to work. It seems this is a problem on pc's as well. I have some things to try from reading other posts, but was wondering if any one tried mac? Btw what a great website.

I assume you're using a serial -> USB adapter?

Correct. I tried using a mindin 8 adapter with a keyspan rs-422 usb-serial device. This didn't work. I have on order a rs-232 serial device which comes with a windows driver. I hope it works.

I've used MX Editor on a Mac, OS X 10.2.5, VPV 6. Slow, but it works. And the USB settings are REALLY picky. Here are the steps to go through.

1) Launch VPC. In the lower left part of the window frame are a bunch of icons. Click on the USB icon (6th from the left, between the network and printer icons) and select "USB Settings".

2) In the resulting dialog, select your USB to serial adaptor from the list AND make sure the "Enable USB" check box is selected. Don't close the dialog yet.

3) Select COM1 Port in the left hand side of the dialog. Pick your USB/serial adaptor.

4) Hit the OK button. I've VPC crash here occasionally. If it does, relaunch it and repeat.

5) Now launch MX Editor, and make sure the communications port is COM1. Should work.

I suspect that if I installed the window's driver for my USB serial port I could just make the USB configurations and skip the com port ones, but I've never got around to trying it. (By the way, I'm using a Keyspan USA-19QW serial port.)

Thanks for the info- Bear.
I was hoping to use the 28x(8pin din). I suspect it won't work as it is a different serial protocol. I have on order the 19qw.
Thanks again,
Ian
