I wanted to find discrete codes for all my components so I could create macros for turn-on/ turn off my equipment easily with the MX-500. However after trying to use the Radio Shack 15-2103 for discrete codes I found that some of my devices dont support discrete codes or act differently when learned to the MX-500. I'm still intrigued by the IRClone option but it is not available right now.
So I decided to work around it. I have programmed an activity based remote where all audio activities are on the left (CD, RADIO, TAPE) with AUDIO at the top wich is the receiver and all video activities on the right ( CABLE, DVD, VHS) with VIDEO at the top wich is the TV or video display . I created a macro for each of the activities to turn on the system specifically to enjoy the activity itself . To turn off the system the user would press the same macro because only the devices used to enjoy the activity would be ON and the macro would turn off only those devices (assuming you are using the toggle power signal). The only thing to be remember by the user is that if he/she wants to change from one activity to another ( e.g Watch DVD to Listen Radio) he/she would have to use the macro that turns OFF the activity [DVD] and then use another macro to turn ON the activity [RADIO].
So far looks promising but I'm still finishing programming the activities so I don't know yet if I like the final outcome.
If you like this idea and have questions just let me know....(probably some of you came up with the same a while ago)
