Hi, I just got a MX-800 and MRF-200 a few days ago and have two symptoms to report.

Symptom 1)

There is a self test on the LCD display of the MX-800 when I full download from the MX-800 Editor. At 27% download, two of the steps of the self test display "fail!"
IROUT FAIL!
IRAMP FAIL!

The download completes and the remote works fine. Is this normal?

Symptom 2)

Sometimes when I click full download I get an error and download fails before it even starts. Right after I click download I get an error pop up "Error Detected: TC:ID1:2" , I click OK then another error pops up "Error Detected: MF:PUDFD:3 Do You Want to Continue? y/n" I click no and then the downloas fails "Download Failed". This seems to be random, I have to try a few more times, then it works. It may fail 5 out of 20 times or more, or just work right the first time.
I ran live update, have MX-800 Firmware 1.02 Apr 11 and Universal Data 1.56 Jul 1
I use WinXP SP2 on a Compaq Presario 1800T notebook.

The remote otherwise works great, I have 5 devices under perfect control.

Thanks for any help.

Symptom 1 is normal. There's nothing to worry about. I've seen the second symptom happen with certain computers. I used to have it occur on occasion. Usually if you close and reopen the MXEditor it won't happen again.

I get that message also. But just click ignore and it works anyway!

I want to say that this remote (MX800) has to be the most superior remote I've ever used. I just installed two of them in one house. I made sure to change the id on the 2nd rf reciever so the remotes didn't change the other rooms devices. The customer has doubles of dvd's, vcr's cable boxes, and tv's. The only diff is one has a pioneer elite tuner/amp added. So making the program for them was really easy considering I had duplicates.

BTW. Being able to use the remote with the cool lite under the covers without having to point the remote is the best. Another + for me is having plenty of very important hard buttons.

Installation tip 101: the MRF-200 works every time on the endtable next to the bed. No need to use any ir emitters at all. No need to use the Zantech 4 or 6 ir emitter kit. Just get the mx-800 and controll all the componants without ever running an ir wire during a prewire.

My 2cents anyway,

Thanks for the replies. I love the remote, now I no longer have to manualy "Shift" 5 remotes on my lap and my wife can use it. ;)

I set the MRF-200 on top of one of my rear channel speakers aimed right at the entertainment wall, it controls all five components with no need for the IR wires.

The wires are for systems with multiple devices of the same model. If you have this type of system, and set up the MRF-200 in front of all the devices, you will not be able of control them individually.

The ir emitter system is also for people like me who have all their gear in a rack or closet and keep the front door closed to that rack. Oh and its also nice when you have equipment that can take a ir plug in directly rather than using the ir repeaters. My receiver has that capability.

You can see my setup before the 800 here: [Link: pcarracing.homestead.com]

PS - I agree that the 800 is a Godsend of a remote. I love it.
