Do any of the national chains like Best Buy, Circuit City carry the Universal remotes ?

I don't believe the MX-500 is in any / many large chain stores. I have seen it (at full retail) at high-end A/V stores. Where are you located?

Why not buy it from one of the several online companies who advertise here (and also provide free tech support in the forums)?

They will give you a better price and better support than any B&M store will.

I've seen the MX-500 and MX-1000 at bestbuy.com but they were about $50-60 more than most online retailers.

Forum sponsor www.homeautomationnet.com is in Florida, but I have no idea if they're anywhere near you. Otherwise, just order next day air from surfremote.com or bluedo.com and it's still be cheaper than if you bought it locally from a custom shop.

Understand the impatience thing. I was close to buying my new GPS unit at Best Buy (for over $100 more than the best online price). The only thing that kept me from doing it was the salesman was in the middle of helping someone else so made me wait before he would open the display case. I left and ordered it online (and waited an extra 2 days).

But for the price difference on the MX-500, I imagine you can get it overnighted from, e.g. Bluedo.com (where I bought mine), and still save money.

Enjoy it when you do get it. It's a great remote. Even better with the IRClone (once they start shipping them again).

I saw a MX-500 while in the Good Guys today, for $189. Not sure if they have the Good Guys in your neighborhood, though.

i usually try to buy high priced items at costco because of their easy return policy; EXCEPT when i bought my mx-500. i went with blue-do because if, god forbid, anything should happen to my remote, blue-do can clone it for me to save me the programming time.
(and to save me from hearing my wife say "would you just STOP with that thing !) by the way, local costco stores DO NOT carry the remotes, they are only available online. since you're online already, you might as well go with one of the advertisers on this forum.
