I have an MX-500 and a television with discreet codes to change the input on my television.

I am trying to get the MX-500 so that pressing the device key 'Tivo' changes my Receiver to the Tivo input, and changes the television to the Tivo input. I am trying to do the same with the DVD and HD device keys.

SO, I go into programming mode, press Macro, press Tivo device key, press the two learned keys to select receiver and television inputs, then press Main to get out. This works great!!! I do the same with the DVD, and it works great too!

However, ever time I try this with the HD device key, it doesn't work unless I hold the HD device key for one second to send the command, which is not what I want.

I cannot seem to figure out why it works for DVD and Tivo device keys, but not for HD. I even tried programming a different device key as HD, but that doesn't work either.

So, I'm convinced to get an IR-clone, but they're not currently available.

Can anyone please help me troubleshoot?

P.S. I've read that you can attach macros to device keys, but they only get sent if you hold the device key for 1 second. If so, why do my Tivo and DVD device keys send both commands, even though I am not pressing them for one second?

On the MX-500, you have two options to put codes on the LCD buttons on the MAIN page - macro or code. If you elect to put a macro on the buttons (i.e. more than one code), you must hold the LCD button for a second to initiate the macro. If you elect to put a code on the buttons (i.e. a single code) it will send the code immediately.

I hope that makes sense!

Thanks for your reply!

It does make sense on the page, but not in the context of my experience. Based on my email above, can you suggest a way I can proceed to get the desired effect?

If a device button is sending out a command without holding it down for a second, there must be either a preprogrammed or learned code on that key. Other than using IRClone to combine two commands on a key (which will cause you to lose that ability on the next key) or some fast successive button push learning, you must hold down the device key for a second to execute the macro. If you're able to program some instant execution macros on your device buttons, you have a unique MX-500 that may have been set up that way by mistake at the factory.

I finally figured this out - it was exactly as everyone said above. I didn't have video components wired the way I thought I did.

Thanks for your assistance.
