I've programmed my new MX-500 with all my components and its working great. But I left the DVD player in the default DVD position on the Main page and the same with my Satelite receiver, TV, VCR, etc. Now I have empty blank place holders where I don't have devices on the main page. 2 questions:

1) Can I move items on the Main screen around in any way without having to re-learn the whole device?

2) Can you disable the blank buttons on the Main screen? If I press them by accident I'd like them to not do anything. Now they take me to the device screen that I blanked out and I have to hit Main to get back.

I tried to find a post about this but had no luck.

Thanks,
Marc

I'm afraid you can't do either on the MX-500. The best you can do is blank out the labels. Some people put a PRESS MAIN label on the first page of a blank device to remind the user who got there inadvertantly.

You can move items around on the main screen using the third-party (created by some RemoteCentral members) IRClone hardware/software package, which adds PC-based editing to the MX-500. If you expect to be changing your layout a lot, it makes it easier to move buttons around and edit macros and favourites.

It costs about US$90, so it may not be worth it just to move some devices. Their web site is www.irclone.com, so you can take a look for yourself and decide whether it's worth it. Note that they are out of stock until later this month, though.

Sure - you can completely progam the remote without any additional hardware. You can rename every button, but anything... anywhere! It's incredibly versatile. Drop me a line if you require a little more help once you get the remote - [email protected]

Gern - yes, as David said, you don't need any additional hardware to set things up. I would suggest, though, that you do a little planning on what you want to use your LCD buttons for. The inability to move buttons on the remote itself means that if you later decide that you want *that* button moved *there*, all you can do is to relabel and relearn the commands (or recreate the macros for FAV buttons). This is a particular problem for moving device buttons on the MAIN page - you actually have to completely recreate your device in order to move the device button.

These aren't incredibly nasty problems, but as I said, a little preplanning is a good thing. If you check the MX-500 files area of this site, you'll find an Excel spreadsheet you can use to design your layout *before* you sit down with the remote to set it up.
