I had to run Mx-Designer form Win98 (with dual boot98+2000)because Mx-Designer was freezing on Win2000 when uploading from the MX-1000 remote.

I lately found a way to make it work properly, here is what I did:
1-uninstalled MX-Designer
2-remove any residual file from the Hard disk
3-remove any residual entry in the registry by doing searches on "Universal Remote", "MX Designer" and "MXDesign.exe"
!!!!!![Dangerous to play with the registry]!!!!!
4-Unzip "MXDesigner225.exe" to a new folder
!!do not install it!!
5-create a shortcut to your desktop
6-delete the following 8 files from the above folder because newer version already exist in the Windows folder: expsrv.dll, mfc42.dll, msvcrt.dll, msvcrit.dll, vbajet32.dll, msjet35.dll, msjint35.dll, msjter35.dll

This worked fine for me and I hope it can help some of you.

Note: I was running Palm Desktop and removing it didn't helped. I will reinstall it ans see if it has any side effect

Great remote but the software sucks!
bye

I recently bought a 1000 and plan to tinker with it some. I'm running 98SE and have done a download or 2 and they have worked ok so far.

I'm running Palm too but I don't let Hotsync run by default. I just put a shortcut on the desktop and run hotsync when I need it. Otherwise, it does not load...

I just got my new MX-1000. I must say I really like the look and feel of the remote. Then I tried programing it. Wow. What a pain. It was in searching for help that I found this forum. I'm still optimistic about using the remote, but reading back through all the comments back to May of 2002, I really came in on the end of this tragic story. But for all of you who are familiar with it, I'm really only having 2 problems.
The first is uploading the operating program, I tried your suggestion 'lachd', but it didn't work for me. I am running win 2K pro. Does anyone one know if the problem is only with win 2k. Does XP or ME work? FYI: I am having no problem uploading learned data, or downloading.
The other problem is on the main page. The title to several of my icons became seperated and are off the screen in MX Designer v2.25, however, after downloading to the remote, those titles show up in wrong places. How can I get those titles to either return to their icons (or at least back to the screen, where I can then move them), or delete those titles, so I can make new ones.
Thank You

I have used MX designer with my MX-1000 with 98SE (dell laptop), NT, and XP home edition. I had marginal success with 98SE, NT worked OK with some tinkering, and XP (which I use MX designer with exclusively with now) has been flawless. So I would highly recommend using XP. Sorry no experience with 2K or Me.

As for you main page woes, I haven't seen anything like that to date. I do know that the main page is very sensitive to deletion and addition of icons. From what I recall there are several posts warning people not to delete any icon from this page (people have created a almost invisible icon to take the place of unwanted icons). You may want to try editing it the labels on the remote, and then uploading as a new workspace on the designer.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for your help 'macollin2', I was able to fix the icons on the remote as you suggested. I'll load XP on another computer at some point for the software.
Thanks again.
