Currently I have the CrispSolutions 626 touchscreen remote. But I've been wanting a remote that has hard buttons on it, so I went ahead and purchased the MX-500. After setting it all up I realize that it is missing one important feature. It has no timer function. On the 626, I have the timer setup to control the light to come on at a certain time and go off at a certain time. But with the 500 there is no clock associated with the remote, hence no timer funtion. Since it looks like I am going to return this, can you think of any other hardbutton remote (without spending alot more money)that would give me this capability. Thank for your input.

The last hard button remote to have a timer function was the ofa urc-9800, if you're using x10 to control your lights, why don't you get x10 timer/clock from RS and let it turn your lights on,and keep the mx-500?

IMHO, the problem with timers and IR remotes is that you must trust yourself to set down the remote, every day / night, in the perfect position that it's aimed at the target device.

If you're wanting lights to go on and off on a timer, you can purchase devices to do that at Target / Walmart / Home Depot, or you can go X-10, which is much more fun and has loads of potential. Check it all out at http://www.x10.com

Thanks guys, I would like to keep the 500 cause I like the feel of it. I already own some X10 lamp modules along with the ir543(?). Thats what I currently use to work my lights. Was on the X10 site right after I typed my inital post and saw that they do have a timer that I can get for my lights. I'll give that a try.

Stephen: You'll like the timer. I use one with my bedroom setup and it shuts down my gear, including my sub, every night at 1am. I've had the same timer for years...

Down the road, if you REALLY get into X-10, get a cheap computer and run X-10 software (www.keware.com is amazing) and for very little cost, control your world :)
