There was a thread awhile back about throwing the MX- 500 out the window. Well, I am SUPREMELY pleased with my MX-500, but the RS 2103 remote I bought to input discrete codes is about to go out the window!

Got the 2103 home, found the discrete codes for my Pioneer Elite VSX 45TX receiver on hi-fi remote.com, programmed them into the remote using their instructions (with the 994 entry code) and it worked like a charm! I learned the discrete on-off codes onto two LCD buttons on the MX-500 and all was well.

Then I attempted to do the same with the discrete on-off codes for my DV-45A DVD player - no dice. The codes (031 and 035) work fine if I test them by tapping "P" on the RS 2103 and entering the code on the keypad. The DVD player goes on and off obediently. But if I try to program the codes onto buttons on the 2103, they don't work! I get all the right LED flashes when I use the button programming procedure, but nothing works. It is as if the 2103 only could accept the first two discrete codes, and no more!

Any suggestions before I go completely mad?

Cheers,
Paul Kile

Paul,

I used my RS 2104 to teach the codes to my MX-500 for my Pioneer DVD player(same codes you refered to, 031 & 035). I didn't bother assigning them to a button on the 2104. After doing the test procedure and seeing that the codes worked, I simply repeated the test procedure and instead of pointing the 2104 at the DVD player, I put the MX-500 into "Learn" mode and sent the test signal right to the MX-500. Worked perfectly.

Larry,
If I understand, you were able to tap "setup", then your code sequence, and this was learned by the MX-500.

The MX-500 therefore must be able to accept a sequence of numbers in the "Learn" mode, rather than just one button press. Is this correct?

During the test procedure, no signal is sent until you hold down the last digit.

Paul,

It's as edmund says. The signal isn't sent until you press the last digit of the three digit code. I setup the MX-500 in the "learn" mode. Press the key I want to learn the code to, then press the last digit of the 3 letter code while aiming the 2104 at the MX-500 and bingo, the MX-500 learns it.

Hope this helps.......

Thanks, guys! You just gave my 2103 a reprieve. Now all I have to do is replace my awful Philips/Magnavox 27" postage stamp TV with something large and flat that doesn't use those silly parity bits in the on-off code!

Will have to wait until my wallet gets a little thicker though.

Cheers,

Do you mean that there are no on/off discrete codes for the Philips/Magnavox TV?, I only have found a Power code that is just a toggle...
