Can the LCD buttons be set to repeat the same function when holding them down? I want them to function like the Volume or Channel buttons that repeat so I can control dimmer X-10 switches with custom labeled LCD buttons.

Sure, just hold down the button of the sending remote while learning to the MX-500, just as you would for a Volume or Channel Up/Down. Mike www.surfremotecontrol.com
