Still debating getting a Pronto vs. MX-500. My main concern is the ability for someone other than myself to be able to figure out how to use the remote. It seems you can make the interface with a Pronto extremely user-friendly. With only 5 characters on the LCD labels for the MX, has anyone had troubles with this? I love using macros for turning my system, changing to DVD, back to TV, to VHS, to camcorder input, to listen to CDs, etc. I also have been using macros for changing channels. I have an HD receiver and the digital channels are hyphenated and are a pain to punch in (i.e. 13-1), so I've created macros for my favorites to speed up surfing. Any comments? Thanks!

What remote did you create those macros on?

I currently use the Radio Shack 15-1994. It does the job OK, but I don't the the IR is strong and I have a hard time remembering where all the learned functions are, and I need more convenient keys for macros.

I switched from a Pronto to an MX-500 and I've never looked back. I think the MX-500 is more user-friendly on virtually every measure, notwithstanding the five-character labels. I highly recommend the conversion.
The tougher question is whether to go with the MX-500 or the MX-700. I have both and I prefer the MX-500 because of its transport key layout, which is superior for TiVo and DVD use. However the MX-700 has greater macro capabilities, so if you are going to be very macro-heavy then you might prefer the MX-700.

Is there a thread or site where people have posted their configurations/set up designs that I'm missing? I'm curious how everyone is doing their macros, labels, etc. I realize this is not like someone posting their CCF file...

Derek: Go here. These files are for the 700. There aren't a lot right now, but you might find some ideas. Right now there are no files for the MX-500, since there is no software that exists to program the MX-500. That is going to change with the release of the 500e software from IRCLONE.com. ... Greg
