I know I have seen an read many threads on the MX-500 and yahama receivers. Well I have one more, I bought the mx 500 after reading all the reports I could on this web site, I thought It would be the remote for me, well I have done everything I can to program it to my receiver and I still get nothing not even a on or off, I have programed everything else and no problems even have a macro or two that work, I know that I am a novice when it comes to learning remotes but I am game for anything, I am even thinking of buying yamaha's rav 2000 in order to get the receiver to function along with the rest of my entertainment system, if I haven't said so my receiver is a yamaha HTR-5280. I thought it may be the remote but I porgramed it to a technics receiver I have in another room an it works with it. I would like any help anyone has to offer
Ralph

Are you learning the codes from your Yamaha remote and do you have fresh batteries in both remotes? I have a Yamaha RX-V2200 and programmed the MX-500 to control it perfectly. I prviously had a Yamaha RX-V870 programmed into the MX-500 and it too worked well. I did have to dedicate two devices of the 10 on the MAIN page of the LCD to get it to work. The first one I call AUDIO and use it for input selections and tuner functions. The second one I call DSP and use this device to select DSP fields and other functions like test, level, and OSD. Since I use the Yamaha for all audio functions, I have the volume controls punched through to the TV, DVD and VCR devices.

Don't give up, I am sure the MX-500 will work for you. Try learning a simple comand or two, test it, then move on to additional commands. Finally, for what it is worth, I found it easier and less frustrating to learn from the Yamaha remote than to use the pre-programmed codes.

Thanks for the reply, I tried programing it from the learn code, do I need to delegate two buttons for the on an stand by (off) position? If I can at least get there I would feel better. I could not get those functions to work from the main off or on buttons on the mx 500. I am not giving up even though I am frustrated.

I have the RX-V1200 and the MX-500 works perfectly with it. When you enter the preprogrammed code that works with your receiver the power button at the top of the MX-500 powers your receiver on and the system button powers it off. I rarely use these as I use one macro to turn all of my components on and another (due to the discrete on/off code of my reciever) to turn everything off. I used my Yamaha remote to program in all the codes that weren't preprgrammed and it works perfectly with my Yamaha.

I would be happy to just be able to enter a preprogram code but I can not seen to find one to enter to get my amp to work. I have tried every code in the manual and some from other manuals but to no avail. I went to yamaha's web site to try and locate a code and could not find one there. Like I said in the first thread I am a novice or less, does any one out there know the code for the HTR-5280 receiver?
Thanks
Ralph

Yes, I did program the ON and OFF (Standby) into two buttons of the MX-500. I then programmed a macro on the Power button to turn on the TV, turn on the Yamaha receiver, set the TV to ANT-A input, and set the Yamaha to TV audio input and leave the remote in the TV device. I then programmed a macro into the SYSTEM OFF button to power off the TV and Yamaha (I would also love to power off my VCR and DVD, but they are TOADS!).

On the MAIN page I programmed press and hold macros for the following:

TV - Power On TV (since I have descrete commands on TV, this is ignored if TV is on), set TV input to ANT-A, set Yamaha input to TV Audio

VCR - Toggle power on VCR (since this is a TOAD, it will turn VCR off, if it is on -- the the play trick does not work on my VCR), set TV video input to VCR (video 1), set Yamaha audio input to VCR.

DVD - Toggle power on DVD (since this is also a TOAD, it will turn DVD off, if it is on -- the the play trick does not work on my DVD either), set TV video input to DVD (Component 1), set Yamaha digital audio input to DVD.

Help this gives you some further help.
