I can type in the 143 three digit code for my Time Warner Cable box in the P-Pro area and hit save and then hit "MAIN", "MAIN" and then go back into the P-Pro area and the number will have changed back to 144, what am I doing wrong? I have searched with no success....help please!

The numbers sometimes do that while still retaining the codes for the number you input. Does the P-Pro code work properly though?

Jim,

That is a known 'bug' - the number shown isn't correct, but the remote knows what you entered and just ignore what it's telling you is there :)

My remote retains the 143 code until I use one of the device buttons. I can set the 143 in the P-PRO area and then hit "SAVE" then "MAIN" & "MAIN" as written in the manual but then go right back into the P-PRO area and the number will be reset back to 144. Could the "PUNCH THROUGH" feature cause this to happen? Right after I programed the P-PRO 143 code for the first time I also set-up the "PUNCH THROUGH" for the first time. Can this cause the remote to forget the P-PRO codes? Please help...this is driving me crazy.

If code 143 is not working your gear, then it's not because the code changes on its own, it is because it's the wrong code to begin with.

The code for a Time Warner cable box, according to the manual is 043, not 143.

Thanks Edmond for the reply. Yes Time Warner's code is 043 but they use the Scientic Atlantic set top box for their digital signal. S.A. has 7 different codes to pick from and it seems that 143 gives me the most complete features. But no matter what code I pick, it should retain it until I change it, I would think.

Update. I tried replacing the batteries with fresh and it did not help. I can get into the P-PRO area and hit place in any 3 digit code and save as per the manual and get right back into the P-PRO area and sometimes it will remember the number and sometimes it will have moved one number, like 043 will change into 044. This just does not make any sense to me.

As others have mentioned, it is not unusual for the code number to change after it's entered. What's important is that the code works.

Are you choosing the original position of the CABLE device (bottom right LCD button) as the device that the code is coming from?

To MikeSRC,
Yes I'm using the orginal cable device button. I have had this remote for more than a year and was up on it at that time and only recently have tried to program it again when Time Warner dropped their new set top box on me to receive their digital service. My guess is that it might have something to do with the punch through programing that I tried right after I put in the new code, but again I have been wrong before. It's so strange to set the code and sometimes it stays for a while and sometimes it changes immediately.

I don't have a Time Warner cable box to try, but I just programmed 043 onto an MX-500 and when I went back to it, it had changed to 044. So I don't think there's anything wrong with yours.

I don't know why no one's mentioned it, but can't you just learn everything from your cable box remote?

To MikeSRC,
Thanks for the info, misery loves company! I'm glad it's not just mine that is doing this. It's looking like I'm going to do just what you mentioned and learn everything from my cable box remote but what a shame that this is happening. I wonder if this is something that effects only the first revision and was fixed with later revisions....I hope so for others. I thank you guys for the help.

When you try these steps;

1. hold MAIN & ENTER
2. press P-PRO
3. press CABLE, then CABLE again
4. press 1-4-3
5. press save
6. press MAIN, then MAIN again

Does the code work, or not.

Jim,

Unless a preprogrammed code give you commands that aren't on your component's remote (which is rare), you'd be better off to learn the commands to the MX-500. This enables you to put commands on the buttons the way you want them, not as someone else has mapped out. Also, there's been fewer problems with macros using learned commands, particularly the FAV macros. Once you've planned and relabeled the LCD buttons, it only takes a few minutes to learn to them.

To Edmond,
Yes sometimes, no sometimes. It's a hit or miss type deal! You would think that something that is of solid state design would be consistent. It will work for a short time then when you hit some device button it decides not to work (or remember the code). I am giving up on the P-PRO code idea and taking the advice of others and going with the learn command. This remote is good but not perfect. Thanks all for your help.
Jim
