I partially successful in setting up some devices, but what I really would like which seems easy eludes me. I have a Sony 40" XBR800 and would like to use the Volume and Mute hard buttons from the Main. I am able to use the Channel button but the volume and mute button does not work! What am I missing here?
TIA

TIA Go to the "punch through" menu and select punch to MAIN ; punch from Volume, Mute [TV device name]

Thanks for the help! Lat question. My TV has video1-7 w/ only Video1 and Video7 active, but I can not get Video7 from the MX700, I have to use the remote that came w/ the TV and toggle all the way through until I get to Video7. Is there a way just to add Video7 to the MX700 under the TV device?
TIA

Ask in the discretes forum to see if there are any discrete commands for your TV. If there are and you can not get them out of your remote, you made need another remote and possible a JP-1 cable and software. If there aren't you will need to perform a trick.
In a macro: Go to TV page and select channel + (then channel - if you want the TV to always be on the last channel watched). This will force the TV to go to TV input usually. Now you will have a guaranteed starting input.
Then, using the button you learned the toggle command to, add the number of presses you need to get to the input desired to the macro. This can be slow (a few seconds), especially if it takes 7 presses.
Then select the page needed (Goto Page command) to control the video source.
I have to do this for a Hitachi TV in the bedroom.

Rick is right. The best way is to use some "anchor"(like TV input in this case) and toggle through till you get vid7.
BTW, do you need to have that device on video 7? If not, why not switch it to vid2 and use fewer toggles.

I think so, Video7 is actually my DVI interface on the Sony. I woder if I can assign the DVI interface to another vid selection (Video2.)

If its the DVI input then you are probably stuck with the "toggle" through method. Wow, so Sony makes you toggle through from vid1-vid7 every time you want to siwtch to DVI input? Not very good ergonomics on the XBR800! Actually, I have to do the same thing on my Hitachi plasma but it only takes 2 toggles. Interesting in that vid1 to vid5 all are directly addressable by the TV remote, but "TV/RGB" button toggles through:
1- Antenna input 2- RGB analog(for a computer) 3- RGB digital(DVI)
Naturally, I only use vid1 and vid2 for my DVD and Laser disc player, leaving those three nice vid3-vid5 buttons unused.
With the mx-700, if I want to watch a hi-def source through DVI, here's what I do:
1- send the TV channel up command(automattically swithces to antenna input(my "anchor") 2-send the learned "TV/RGB" command TWICE.
This works great unless one of the IR commands doesn't get through, in which case my wife gets frustrated since she is left staring at a blank screen. So I borrowed a trick from the user manual and created a "FIXTV" lcd button on the mx-700 which is just the "TV/RGB" button.
