I am programming a MX-700 and it's all(most) going well. I have no problems controlling 2 TiVos, a Replay, DVD, etc., only my RPTV gives me troubles.

This is a Barco Retrographics 808s. The MX-700 has no problems learning the codes and I can control the Barco with the MX-700 - but only from about 5' and closer.

The Barco remote works fine from 10-15' distance
The MX-700 max 5'
The MX-700 has no problems controlling all other devices from 10-15' - but not the Barco

Has anybody experienced some strange behavior like that? Can I fix it, do something?

Thanks for any help!

When you learn the codes, try holding the buttons down on your original remote until the MX-700 says GOOD, and then a second or so more.

It might make a difference.

Let us know what happens.

No difference.

I found an old device I must have for ages. It's called 'The Cockpit' and it is an IR signal booster. If a regular IR remote can be operated from 10', through 'The Cockpit' it works at 20' or more.

I tried the MX-700 with it and have no problems controlling every device I have programmed at great distance - but not that Barco. Does not work at all through it.

This is driving me nuts. If it would not work at all, fine. But why does it work up to 5' and not from more when the original remote works from 12+?

Have you tried new batteries in the MX-700?

Changing batteries was the first thing I did - no difference.

Next week is CES here in Vegas and I am certain I find someone from Universal Remote at the show. Will take that Barco remote with me and see if they have an answer - if I can't get it to work earlier.

Have you tried learning the Barco commands to a different device on the 700, just to see if that makes a difference?

Hi Greg,

I assume you are with Universal Remote? I look foreward meeting you.

I did some more testing.
All commands from the Barco remote have been learned by the MX-700 and all work - from up to about 5' or 6', no farther.
I place myself 8' in front of the Barco and point the MX-700 direct at it - nothing (with the original Barco remote it works).
I have some IR extenders from Recoton. If I place a transmitter 6' behind the projector and press a Barco command on the MX-700 from the same place as before, I can see the transmitter getting the signal because the red light starts flashing - the Barco in the middle shows no reaction.
Next I place a Recoton receiver about 2 feet in front of the Barco, at a location from which the MX-700 can control it. I then walk about 8 feet behind the projector, 2 feet passed the transmitter and point the MX-700 at it and press commands - nothing. And I can see the red lights from the receiver and transmitter flashing.
The same receiver and transmitter have no problems controlling all my other equipment from a different room with the MX-700.
I don't know what IR equipment Barco uses but it sure is crap - can't beat the picture, doh.

PS - Have an old learing remote from GE and teached it a few of the Barco commands. Same thing; maybe 5',6' and then it would not work any longer.
