Just had a MX500 delivered by UPS this afternoon. I was using a Sony touch screen but I never really liked it and the very limited ability for custom labels drove me crazy (not to mention somenone else trying to operate my remote-I knew what was under the buttons but nobody else did). The ability to customize labels via the LCD screen was one of the main reasons I went with the MX-500 (along with all of the great reviews).
I still have some programming left to do but it is much easier to program than the Sony. Besides, I needed a new toy.

Yeah, I returned the Kameleon and got this MX-500 about a week ago. I have the Sony AV3000 touch screen in my living room. I like the Sony but I **LOVE** the MX-500! I wish I could return the Sony now and get two MX-500s. You are completely right that no one would figure out my Sony remote, but everyone can use the 500. It's an issue here since we have house guests all the time.

I know what you mean about the toy :). Last week we had a whole new fancy schmancy dining room set delivered, and the remote was supposed to be here on the same day. I was much more excited about the remote comming! (I can see my wife rolling her eyes even now)

I have a touchscreen sony, practically new that I replaced with an mx-500 that I love about a year ago. I tried to sell the practically new sony (for ANY amount of money, since it is just sitting in the closet). I put an ad on this forum (I have all the original packing and manuals as well), and I did not even get 1 offer.

But the mx 500 is worth it, and when the software is available, I am probably getting the pc link.

Now that I've got my mx-500 all programmed the way I want it, it is great. The LCD screen with editable buttons is fantastic. If I could change anything about it I have two very minor things--direct access keys to the devices so that you don't have to use two key strokes to get to the individual device pages (once I get used to it, it will be a non-issue). The same goes for my second thing--I'm having to get used to the thumb pad, I can never seem to press the center just right for select-however, I am getting better at it (and I have programmed the enter key with either select or enter from most of my devices). These are two very minor quibbles with an, otherwise, great remote (and those two minor issues will become non-issues once I get used to the remote). Overall, the Sony touchscreen I have (for sale, cheap) is not even in the same ball park as the MX-500. I can't imagine myself being happier with one of the much more expensive couputer programmable touchscreens. I have everything programmed into the MX-500 and anybody that can read lables should be able to operate it.

I take it the new Kameleon still doesn't come close to the functionality of the MX-500 from your posts?

Thanks,
Mike

Actually, I have a tip. Don't try to press the 'select' button with the tip of your thumb. Lay your whole thumb across it and press with the middle of the pad of your thumb. It's much easier and supprisingly natural.

I was down at my parents for Christmas and saw a, not very through review of the Kameleon. I'm not familiar with that remote but it sounded interesting. The article didn't say anything about being able to edit labels or just how many key pads were available for each device. The price was nice ($56 or $59). Like to see a full review. Stan
