Hi
New to this world although it seems real exciting.
Just purchased an MX-500 from Bluedo.com. I figured out how to program the remote using the 3 digit codes. This method makes the functions operate in the same way as the original remote. Probably a stupid question but can I or How do I program the MX-500 to do the same functions but in an easier way?

Example I have a Panasonic PT-40LC12 TV. It has closed caption. It is a 4 step process on the original remote and the same when programed with the 3 digit code only a little more confusung.

Now to the question can I program the LCD button/buttons to simply turn the caption on/of and have it read "closed caption" so my wife will be able to figure it out?

Thanks
Mark

PS You are all correct, this is the worst owners manual I have ever seen.

Mark,

We've put together an MX-500 FAQ section on our website, which includes the popular question, What is the best way to program the MX-500? The pre-programmed codes rarely have all the codes you want, and rarely put them on the buttons you'd prefer. By performing the simple AUX 155 procedure and then learning the codes from your factory remote, you'll get the exact codes you want, exactly where you want them!

Mark,

The short answer is "yes." Check out the section of your manual (and Daniel's review) about macros. A macro allows you to program multiple commands to a single button, so your four-step process becomes one push of a button. If the commands needed to turn your closed captioning on are different from those to turn it off you may need two macros (one on each of two buttons).

Hi;

As above, yes, this can be programmed as a macro. Since you ask about the LCD buttons, you'd need to program it on a "Device" macro that isn't being used for another function. You can then program your macro to end back on the device that you want to be controlling. It's not as nice a solution as using one of the System macros, but it's the only way to change the label without needing an arts & crafts session.

Thanks all

Well there is a CC (closed caption) LCD button on page 1 of the TV device control. It does nothing now, but can I program it to go on when I press it and then use another (or same) button to turn it off. If so-how?

Thanks again
Mark

Mark,

The labels given in the pre-programmed codes often are for codes that don't exist. If the code DOES exist, you'll likely need to download it from a Pronto .ccf file and use either a Pronto (or the cheaper alternative, the URC-8811PKG with the JP1 cable that can utilize Pronto .ccf files) to teach to the MX-500.

Get an MX-700 and create a MACROS almost anywhere you like..... or write a MACRO with the MX-500 that encompasses the individual steps with the press of a single button.

I just bought my MX-500 so I am not going to get an MX-700. Also how DO I write a macro? Is there a good site to go to that can give me simple step by step insructions?

The manual that you can download from the Home Theater Master site has the steps for a macro that is very easy to follow. That manual, which may or may not be the same as the printed one that you got, makes it very easy to learn how to do macros correctly.

What else do you think the manual is missing? I'm the writer and would like to know for future revisions.

Do I need to "teach" EVERY function from every remote to the MX-500? How long should the process take? I have 6 remotes.

Thanks

OK

I can't seem to get the hang of this. Is there a place I can bring all my remotes and pay to have someone program them for me? Or is there someone here who live in CT and would like to help a lost soul out?

Much appreciated
Mark
