Greetings, I am attempting to program an MX-700 for a customer. This is my first one, though I've programmed many MX-500's. Yes, two entirely different things, of course. I cannot "get out of the starting gate", as I cannot get the PC and the MX-700 to talk to each other. My PC is a late model Dell Optiplex with a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 and 512 MB RAM running Windows 2000 Professional. I connected the cable (supplied by my distributor, not home crafted) to COM1, set MX Editor accordingly and the two simply will not talk. I know that COM1 is good, having proved so by successfully connecting other devices to it. The version of MX Editor that I'm running is 1.07.130, which I assume is the latest and greatest. When I plug the cable into the MX-700, I can see on the LCD display that the unit goes through about three or four seconds of diagnostics. Yet, no matter what operation I attempt that requires communication between the MX-700 and the PC (upload, download, firmware revision check, learn) fails. It never gets started. Is there some button sequence on the MX-700 that must be pressed in order to force it to communicate? Do you have any other suggestions? I'm an old pro with serial communication, but there simply is not much in the way of options is this case. Thanks, Stew Weis

NEVERMIND! I discovered that the cable that was supplied with my MX-700 was wired incorrectly! RX and TX lines were reversed. So much for "buying" vs. building your own!
